I still don't get any new workunits since the servercrash. The client says the project may be down, and check for internet access is ok. I tried the retry button but that doesn't work. The only thing that looks wierd to me is the host location, but as i normally don't check the log, i don't know if it's an issue. Here's part of the log for some additional data:

Certainly if projects have hundreds of thousands of devices active and coming back up, you'd not want them all connect within the hour of coming online again... that would cause another crash for sure.

edit: many of the deferred contacts reported in on Wednesday morning turning in an extra 22 CPU years over last weeks same day morning session, 178 now versus 156 last. Maybe there's another little kick this afternoon from those that had been running on cache.

We discussed the bit and it seems the back-offs however painful were/are a necessary evil. When initially coming back on-line with one server, there was a considerable angst a DDOS type situation could develop due the mass of clients all trying to connect in a very small window of time. This did not happen as the initial traffic increase was moderated... system worked as designed with an estimated production loss of <2% of a full week.

So all appears stable and we're seemingly crunching full throttle again.

reboot didn't work either so i now downloaded a new version 6.10.18 of boinc which works. The old version on my computer crashed along with the servers or something... Anyways things are working again so i'm happy, thanks for the help and suggestions.

Glurp,

Is there a router/(a)dsl inbetween the internet and your computer? They can suffer from DNS relics too. Nowadays with W7 it's the only thing I've got to boot to get all things talking again, LAN and Interstrada. It acts for me as DNS server intermediary.

i have an adsl modem. I did reboot the modem twice along with the computer but didn't seem to make any difference, so i think the problem was in the old client as the fresh client connected immediatly.
