For what it is worth, another oddity. When I left both of these wu's were showing almost 13 hours of elapsed run time (BOINC 6.10.18) but when they finished the results status shows 10.52 and 10.56 hrs respectively.

What you are noticing with the 6.10 client is clock time compared to cpu time.

Ok, now I got my first invalid WU without restart ( BETA_erlc_a143_se0000 with both wingmen valid). So maybe it depends not so much on checkpointing and it is sufficient to fine tune the validation rules...
Don't know. |

Results so far:
----------------------------------------Q6700, XP Pro, 4GB RAM (allowing 60% in use, 80% idle), 6.2.28 One Valid (wingmen 1 valid, 1 invalid), two inconclusive (one wingman inconclusive on one, two inconclusive on the other). QX6700 Vista 64 bit, 8GB RAM (allowing 75% in use, 85% idle), 6.2.28 One Valid, one Invalid, one Pending Validation, two Errors, ( The system cannot write to the specified device. (0x1d) - exit code 29 (0x1d) ), three Inconclusives (three with one wingman each also inconclusive, 4th one has two wingmen inconclusive). P4 with HT, XP Home, 1.5GB RAM (allowing 75% in use, 75% idle), 5.4.11 All three Valid. One had one wingman valid and the other two both had two wingmen valid. My 32 bit Vista machine didn't get any Betas this time. On the P4 machine I didn't do anything other than let them run. On both of the other two computers I suspended all work units except the Betas to get the Betas to the "front of the line" then suspended the Betas and let the work units that were running finish. Hope this helps..... [Edit 1 times, last edit by David_L6 at Jan 7, 2010 9:40:09 PM] |

Very pleased to find I got 3 betas overnight. 2 Valid and 1 inconclusive; One wingman not in yet, the other also inconclusive.
I see CPU matching was not used, on this batch. |

When there is bit for bit result comparison without parts being tossed in quorum 2 due speed differences as happens with HCMD2 there is no need to do elaborate CPU matching. Here platform level homogeneity grouping suffices similar to HCC.

How can you tell they are checkpointing every 3 min? In cc_config.xml, if you add the line <checkpoint_debug>1</checkpoint_debug> to the <log_flags> section it will add a timestamped note on the Messages tab every time the work unit checkpoints. And how do you know what your write to disk setting is? THanks- [snip] Besides the global setting here (My Grid, Device Manager->Device Profile, [profile name], Advanced Options section), you can set that locally in BOINC under Advanced->Preferences on the disk and memory usage tab. I think it would have taken me longer to find the links to where all that's documented (be assured, it is) here than it did to just answer you. Hope that helps. |

I received this one: BETA_ erlc_ a100_ pe0000_ 3--
It has been marked "inconclusive" during the runs "0" to "2". This computer usually returns work units within 13 hours so by about 10 hours from now (I think) the result should be returned. |
