Ah, but tluehr needs enough beta hours to be able to join Club16 when admission is open. Tickets for Club15 have been elusive for many people, and it is a limited group that can hope to be allowed in Club16. tluehr makes a true chance though, if the Beta wu's fall his way. If member of Club15 before Club16 starts, then it's a walk in the park to secure front-row seats in Club16, Club17, ...
Now all that's left is waiting for the new "B" Beta, and hoping the WU's get sent the right way. |

I didn't start with WCG until after some of the early projects were completed, so I am happy with my Gold Beta and Sapphire for each of the 9 projects that have been active since the day I started. Looking forward to joining Club 11 with another Sapphire.

I ran some AfricanClimate@Home and Genome Comparison tasks but never managed to get a badge for either (I didn't know what I was doing back then), and have not quite managed to get a Beta yet (agian through my initial ignorance)!
With 2 new projects on the horizon, plenty of us should be able to grab a few more Betas this year, but it's only a 10 badge club in my sights. It would be nice to see another project or two, but I am in no rush - I still have plenty of Blues to collect and can set all sorts of personal points and ranking targets to keep me amused |

Well, looks like we'll have more beta's in the future. At this point, it is planned to rerun the type A and B again that has been run in the past month. This should include the type C from these as well. In addition to this, there should be another 400+ type A work units and their B/C that will need to be run. That is the information I know at this point. Things are subject to change, but more beta in the future with more work units.
Again no schedule on the beta, and numbers are subject to change without notice...(my general clause of don't hold me to these numbers just in case things do change) :) thanks, -Uplinger |

But we do hold you responsible :O)
----------------------------------------So 20 targets reduced to 18... already 10% complete on the project by running a few tests ;>)

Now all that's left is waiting for the new "B" Beta, and hoping the WU's get sent the right way. Out of topic... in my humble opinion, be part of a select badge clubs ever will be cool and a honnor. I think that for many old WCG crunchers, be part of a more complete badge club (like club15, the top one by now...) was a querstion of lucky in many cases (was my case for example !). When WCG started more than 5 years ago, and for a long time after, there aren't any kind of badges, just the metrics regarding results, time processed and points. And there aren't any multiprocessors machines available in the Wintel world at that tinme, to do a lot of work each day. And there aren't a BOINC agent very cool, which provides management and control of processing more than one task per machine at a time (probably someone will remember yet the headeakes and pains with UD agent issues running a task by time uploading and after it downloading a new one, and many times losing the work done almost at the end or something like that...) So, the badges rules was introduced many time after the WCG start, and when it appear, many of old crunchers don't have computed time of processing or more resources to improve specifics projects to get the badges available at begining, specially the 3 hard ones (GC, HDC, HCMD). This 3 hard ones are a lack for many, and are a lack of more high levels for many other crunchers too, across WCG members. Add to this 3 hard ones, project specifics for at least more one badge, the ACH which was distributed under some certain restrictions with bandwich due the download/upload requeriments. And finally, add to this observations, that for a long time after badges was implemented, there aren't any criteria regarding badge levels associated with a specific time of processing to get specific levels in each badge. On the contrary, it is relatively new in the badge rules. For sure, someone will remember more adds to insert here... So, despite of the lucky of few people that selected almost by coincidence a specific project (like the hard ones), at its beginings, it happens in a time that many WCG crunchers, don't set the mind to pursue any kind of badge or forum specifics discussions about it... it kind of behavior happened many time after the badge rules start. In fact I guess that dosen't matter which kind of badge club the colaborator belong... I guess that any club type member is very important to us and for WCG projects, once without a lot of anonimous people that works in off mode, and without the badges pursuing daily fun running that we watch in the forum coments, WCG don't got the fantastic results in each project and its impressive power of processing running until now... So, badges are very cool way to motivate colaborators here, and for sure we will have a lot of news in this topic in future years. So, many kind of new clubs will rise, some with more badge numbers other with some specifics badges levels, and so on... Keep crunching, and just for don't loss the subject that matter in this thread, I hope that Uplinger get speed up this planned one new Beta...
Cheers ! GIB@

O/T - I vaguely remember back in 2000 using work computers hooked up to seti, and possibly a few other projects. We may have used anonymous accounts. I definitely lost several for different projects over the years – move house or change your computer and don't check your email account for 4 weeks (because you don’t have an Internet connection or a computer) and its gone!
Like many, my crunching efforts were rejuvenated with ClimatePrediction.net following some TV coverage back in 2006, and I quickly hooked up with SIMAP, Rosetta, and later Tanpaku... Those projects did not have badges, so I had no idea a badge system even existed when about a year later I came here. I think I may have made the decision to stop crunching AfricanClimate@Home thinking it was enough to already be crunching Climate Prediction. As for some of the badges I did get, I overshot some and undershot others following the addition of the gems. In 2007 I was worried about Betas; they tended to fail a lot and I blamed them for crashing my system several times, so I opted out It is unlikely that there will be a different Beta badge any time soon – years hopefully; no-one has a Blue gem yet, let alone any of the proposed additional badges! Personally I don’t want to see too many new project badges plastered over every post, some users have lots of points and not so many badges, so I would prefer new badges were somewhat fewer and further between, even if it means unattainable badges for me and others. I have always thought a points total and years of contribution would look better under the user name, perhaps even a team total as well. Four rows of badges always makes me think of those 4 star generals who never actually saw much action! |

About medals, this made me remember about a trip I made in Budapest when it was still under the communist regime. It was back in 1982. We did a trip as students to visit the University, the Electrical Works of Ganz etc. We were in Budapest during the 1st of May which was a very big celebration. It was not military as it is the workers day.
----------------------------------------What completely stunned me was the number of people in uniforms wearing each from 10 to 50 or more medals. Their side was covered with glittering medals of any kind. I was told these were workers having received medals (in our world these are the equivalent of our stock options) as a reward for having worked like hell, or reached some objectives in production etc.. When the regime fell you could buy these medals for half a dollar in the street. After the dotcom bubble burst, I imagine that many having been rewarded with mountains of stock options worth nothing any more could even not sell them in the street. |
