Thanks lhhung for the update - it's much appreciated
----------------------------------------I'm sure everyone here acknowledges that we've got the 'easy bit' of the equation - after all, we just keep our computers crunching away to their full potential. All we ask, is a brief update once in a while, so that we're kept in the loop as to what's happening - perhaps a job which could be done during a 'coffee break' What is certain though, is the fact that the three letters 'gpu' will prick up people's attention - as that's a constant drumbeat here on the forums |

First of all, thanks for the sign of life!
----------------------------------------I have finished a gpu accelerated version of the folding code. [...] Obviously it will not be used in this project as it is so close to the end. So what does that mean? Do you already have plans for a next phase, i.e. NRW2, or a different project? Regards, Martin |

Perhaps the WCG Admin can give the scientist's a little nudge... As far as I know it is a permanent topic in the agenda of meetings which take place regularly between WCG and the scientists. |

There are no plans for a NRW2 that I am aware of. There have been discussions about possibly using the folding code in other projects.
As for the new gpu code, it runs quite stably (weeks) on an ATI/Linux open source setup. Gpus and cpus have very different advantages so different compromises that have to be made in choosing the theoretical methodology and how to best partition the work between the processors. Once that is done, then it is not too difficult to port between platforms and OpenCL should help there. The exciting thing about this work, is not that we can generate structures (much) more quickly but that very different approaches are feasible. This takes some thought and a lot of testing - it's not just a simple recompile. The new code includes some better energy functions but this is just a first step in exploiting gpus in protein folding simulations. I just ran out of coffee... Hong |

Hi Hong and thanks for the update.
Obviously it will not be used in this project as it is so close to the end. Can you give us an estimate on how close the project is to the end? |

Can you give us an estimate on how close the project is to the end? Hello bono vox, watch Sekerobs Charts. Progress as of today shows 79,68%. Greetings |

Crunching batch 543 presently of 630... 1 batch taking about 35 CPU years at present power invested.

OK, so my guesstimate is roughly 2 more months at current trend (using a 49 CPU years/day mean).

Kaspersky has just warned me that there are 3 or 4 phishing links on this page , of which bit[dot]ly/2P3d2L is supposedly one. By looking around with firefox properties, I can't even see that link on the page.
Is anyone else seeing phishing alerts? |
