Vote: Nov. 2010 I have tried, but it is an exercise in futility. Our own narrow congressional district stretches from Austin to Houston and there are lots more like it, 400 miles long and 20 miles wide or less. Instead of being compact, they are gerrymandered (after Elbridge Gerry) so that the incumbent can't be voted out. I still vote for lots of challengers and switch parties a lot. It seems to be time to switch again since I got new voting registration cards in the mail. Sometimes if nothing is happening in one party, I vote in the other one where there are some choices. If I prefer the first party, I will vote for the weak ones in the other party in the primary. I vote where I can do the most help or the most damage. It is even better if election day is cold and crappy, so my vote will count more. I wish I could vote for a Libertarian, but they put up a lot of janitors, used car salesmen and homeless people (seriously!!).

I know what you mean.Texas is poised to pick up four new seats in congress because of increased population--i prefer to vote for conservatives now,in the past i was not paying much attention, after the last election i have learned my lesson. |

Some more hope and change http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405274...l?mod=WSJ_hp_mostpop_read This quote from that link says it all: The rushed, secretive way that a bill this destructive and unpopular is being forced on the country shows that "reform" has devolved into the raw exercise of political power for the single purpose of permanently expanding the American entitlement state. An increasing roll of leaders in health care and business are looking on aghast at a bill that is so large and convoluted that no one can truly understand it, as Finance Chairman Max Baucus admitted on the floor last week. The only goal is to ram it into law while the political window is still open, and clean up the mess later. I can understand ignorant - stupid, I don't get at all...

You have to understand the mind of the elites that came out of the socialist university's in the US. They over the years have gained control of the government. They are more ideological than conservatives and more powerful because of their money and education and mostly lawyers. They pass laws that protect themselves, also they only care about the power to control everyone else. Where people like you and me and conservatives just want to work and take care of their family's. We are to trusting.thinking that the ones in power will look out for us.We dont like to get off the couch to find out what is going on.Let someone else do it! We have been watching to much football, real TV and not paying attention. The Left are devious and calculating, especially the socialist elites that have slowly taken over the democrat party. ** http://blog.heritage.org/2009/12/29/injustice...sletter&utm_medium=Em **edited for denigration**tkh [Edit 3 times, last edit by TKH at Dec 31, 2009 1:47:31 PM] |

one of the jokes that is going around, but it sort of fits into this thread...
----------------------------------------Subject: A Texas cowboy A cowboy named "Mark" was overseeing his herd in a remote mountainous pasture in California when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced toward him out of a cloud of dust. The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, RayBan sunglasses and YSL tie, leaned out the window and asked the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, will you give me a calf?" Mark looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?" The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his iPhone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location, which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo. The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg , Germany. Within seconds, he receives an email on his iPhone that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses an MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his iPhone and, after a few minutes, receives a response. Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his Hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer, turns to the cowboy and says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves." "That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says Mark. He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on with amusement as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car. Then Mark says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?" The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?" "You're a Congressman for the U.S. Government", says Mark. "Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?" "No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You used millions of dollars worth of equipment trying to show me how much smarter you are than I am; and you don't know a thing about how working people make a living - or about cows, for that matter. This is a herd of sheep..... Now give me back my dog
