error with RICE

Hi all,

I have got this error with a WU:

The PC is crunching everything perfectly, but not RICE. Actually several weeks ago was crunching ok, but another PC with similar programs/configuration also had the same problem of error just after the start of the WU.

Thank you for the help.

Cheers

Re: error with RICE

So what changed on this or the other machine a few weeks ago? Have these machines rebooted recently... maybe a limbo state of Windows updates but not fully applied absent a boot?

If your RICE fails within the first few minutes or hangs, then you have the same problem as I have when using 6.2.28 on my laptop. All other projects work fine with 6.2.28. When I wish to crunch RICE though I switch to 5.10.45. (Got multiple installs on there all pointing to the same data directory.)

Re: error with RICE

Yes Sekerob, they are both laptops!

Apart from this, I really don't know. Nothing strange happened to the machines, they reboot almost everyday, no windows updates went wrong recently...

I should also switch to the other version like you did...

Thanks
L.

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.10.45_windows_x86_64.exe for win64bit, or http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.10.45_windows_intelx86.exe if you've got win32-bit.

Re: error with RICE

This is the WCG support forum so we offer the WCG custom build link first: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/wcg_boinc_5.10.45_windows_intelx86.exe

WCG has no 64 bit builds since the sciences are all compiled and optimized for 32 bit. Some sciences have benefit from running on 64 bit, OS permitting, mostly those loaded with portions of the science app that do integer calculations.

Let us know how it works out latakia.

Re: error with RICE

hmmm, my Quad got a 52.5 mb (Vista 32 bit) monster update on Wednesday, packaged in 16 fixes (to include another unwanted ffx add-in update). No problems with RICE (clients 6.2 through 6.10 alpha never have). I've not done the XP Duo yet, nor booted it. It never does RICE because it only does them well when on BOINC v 5.10.45. With 6.2 and above it's always broken them within minutes with that error.

Re: error with RICE

Hi all,

installed 5.10.45, crunched one and got error after about 5%.

Then, nothing to do, switched and crunching for the moment HCMD2.

Let me know if something will change in the RICE WUs.

Cheers

Re: error with RICE

Maybe it's because there are allot more RICE going into the pool since the project had taken the breaks off that you are getting more? That is, if you do not run rice exclusively.

As for what I wrote before, my WCG 6.2.28 client on XP duo always failing, I just pulled a single job on there and pushed it into the front for processing and low and behold, now it did get beyond the point of writing the first checkpoint, now in 3.2% progress. I'll let it run and see if it gets into a "Pending validation" state or crashes later.

I've asked to tech to check into the error rates, but think nothing is going to come out. It's a random/low frequency fail, the 1073741819 message generally considered a client hardware/os caused error for which there is the longer diagnostics path to walk. http://worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=16468

PS: The XP duo is on SP3 all fixes applied, all drivers up to snuff and .Net 3.0 installed.
