Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/news/releases/archive/2011/cold-dec

Provisional figures from the Met Office issued today reveal that December 2010 has become the coldest December across the UK since the national series began in 1910.

And people wonder why no one believes in the threat of Man Made Global Warming through our emissions of CO2 any more

and yet the Politicians never give up or admit their policy decisions might have been made in error

Based on the CET temperature series Dec 2010 was the coldest December since 1890 and the second coldest December in at least the last 352 years.

5.2C below the 1970-2000 average temperature for a December in the UK.

But reports of ice sliding off Greenland has confirmed the effects of global warming and anyone in the know realizes that global warming is likely to make the UK a great deal colder as Arctic water starts to alter the route of the gulf stream which is the only thing that stops us being like our continental neighbours of Norway and Sweden.

This is very succinct and makes the point nicely

What part was missing from this message? Was is by chance UK Only? 2010 The Globally Hottest Year on Record!

December 2010 Arctic Sea Ice LOWEST on record... which some will explain as a sign of Global cooling!

NSIDC: Lowest December Arctic sea ice extent in satellite record
The cold may make the news, but it ain't the story.

Thames barrier had in the last decade to be closed 75 times. The previous decade some 35 times and the decade before that some 15 times!

2010 The Globally Hottest Year on Record!

RSS data: 2010 not the warmest year in satellite record, but a close second

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Especially for you, littlepeaks, as a man open to see ''professional'' analysis of the multiple data sets that exist on world temperatures:

http://tamino.wordpress.com/2011/01/06/sharper-focus/#more-3278

snip

... It may deserve notice that for 2010, the GISS adjusted temperature is lower than either RSS or UAH — so during 2010 it was the satellites that ran hot. With a month yet to report, it’s unlikely that the GISS December value will change that situation.

The models we used for the exogenous factors confirm that the satellite data respond more strongly to both el Nino and volcanos. The satellite response to el Nino is nearly twice as large as the GISS response, while the response to volcanic forcing is about 50% larger for the satellites than for GISS. Eliminating this difference between them has brought them much closer together.

The remaining global warming trend (+/- 2-sigma) is 0.0166 +/- 0.0026 for GISS, 0.0155 +/- 0.003 for RSS, and 0.0133 +/- 0.003 for UAH.

And for those in love with hottest years, all three adjusted data sets rank 2010 as #1, and both GISS and UAH place 2009 in the #2 slot.

And sadly, the actor Pete Postlethwaite passed recently away at the age of 64, of cancer **. His last docu-movie "The Age of Stupid" ... trailer...is well worth watching and educational. Did you know that if all people on the planet lived like Europeans like Dutch, English, Germans, not to speak of the Nrth Americans, we would be using resources, 3.5 times that what our unique Earth can deliver?

** More and more science points at Cancer being a modern age disease due environmental pollution. Burning fossil fuels and it's many other forms it finds it's way in our everyday life is good for all living beings.

PS: Found an Island for David Autumns to move to: Tuvalu. East of the Great Barrier reef... for serenity and bliss. Both were making the news very recently and no Thames Barrier to stem the flood... ever rising.

Oh and whilst the UK was colder, the West of Greenland and Northern Canada was 15C warmer. I'm sure there's a plausible explanation why this points at Global Cooling.
