I'm a little nervous right now. I've got three of the monsters still running, two have wingmen already in PV waiting on me, but the third, BETA_erag_a003_ps0000 is looking pretty shaky. Both wingmen have been shot down in flames with the same error code
<message> process exited with code 193 (0xc1, -63) </message> The last one bought it after 53.94 hours. My box is still proceeding with the mission so far, so I'm hoping it stays the course, only 9.5 hrs to go. It's got me worried though. |

I just turned in my monster. It had a estimate of 48 hours when I first got it. Jump up to 52 hours after it had been process for a few and at the end that number quickly droped until if finished out just over 40. I have 15 system but I was only able to get one of these due to the requirements. I think it was just shear luck that this one meet the bandwidth requirements. It took me a day to get to this. I still had a lot of FLU work queued up ahead of it with a earlier deadline. But still 40 beta hours and 610 Points. Thank you very much!

Hmmm... preview shows some of my typing disappearing off the right-edge of the screen. are the code tags screwing the formatting outside their range? Working as designed.Formatting is disabled for the text between the code tags (that's part of the purpose), so the width of your post is adjusted to the maximum width necessary for the "code" part. And the normal text formats based on that extended width... But don't worry it is still readable with a bit of horizontal scrolling. The new forum software is a welcome improvement on this matter, only the wider post is affected, therefore it is not too much of a problem if there are not too many lines of normal text. With the old version of the forum it was the whole displayed page which was displayed with the extended width, so all posts in this page were affected. The same can happen when too wide pictures are posted. No comment on the beta test itself, I am not part of the game this time. Cheers. Jean. Edit: Removed a superfluous d from "welcomed"! I was a little strange last night... ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Oct 10, 2009 9:29:40 AM] |

I never noticed any being too wide without pushing the whole thread out like that does, before... that is a welcome change. :-) No comment on the beta test itself, I am not part of the game this time. Cheers. Jean. I see one other cruncher has reported a code 193 since I posted mine. I think I'll let that machine run dry this weekeknd and see if I can unmount and grow the swap partition to 10GB. I should have known better than to follow the install recommendation of (2 x 2GB) + (total GB -2GB) = Swap, which gave me a 6GB swap partition. |

Hmmm, I have one WU (BETA_ erag_ a001_ ps0005_ 2) with inconclusive. One wingman has inconclusive too, the third one has detached. There is one more with waiting to be sent, but Uplinger stated earlier in this thread that no replacements will be sent (which is true because the WU is waiting since 08.10.).
So what happens next? Will it turn to Too Late? |

Yes it would, the waiting being on the remaining Beta results, yesterday 88 validated. When all have returned or expired a manual intervention takes care of clearing and any credit for time/point under the applied policy, written or unwritten.

I have some more WUs with the same constellation (one pending, one error or detached, one waiting to be sent). So if it probably will not validate and therefore the time may be lost, isn't it better to abort them?

I'd abort under the frozen beta conditions, certainly if little or no time was spend on them and the quorum info for the unstarted jobs is that the particular task has already logged an error for the wingman.

I just returned my 3 outstanding betas. Two validated as each had a return already. The third, BETA_erag_a003_ps0000, eventually went the distance, even though both wingmen crashed and burned.
I hope I get full credit for it eventually. 66.6 hrs is a lot to miss out on after surviving to the end. If the techs need any detailed info on my setup to figure out why mine made it and the others didn't I'm happy to help. |

... So if it probably will not validate and therefore the time may be lost, isn't it better to abort them? If the quorum is 2 and yours finishes before the deadline, it (and the 1 already pending) should then validate, I believe. If it's close to the deadline, I would trigger a Project update as soon as you notice it's finished, too... otherwise all it might do is upload the results, not actually report that it's done, and *I think* it could still end up being too late even if the result was uploaded before the deadline. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding how that works. (?) |
