First, let it just run for a while now you know your preferences are good. It takes a little while for the time estimates to adjust.
If you still have the problem tomorrow, then you will have to look more closely at your power saving and the CPU clock speed. |

Didactylos,
Ok, we'll let it run for a while and see if it sorts itself out. We appreciate eveyones help since we can't seem to sort this mess out. (BTW, when we put this system together, we bought a CPU fan that pushed about 190 CFM; Of course the bloody thing was as loud as a jet engine so we had to shut down the system until we got another CPU fan. This one pushes about 114-120 CFM and is at least something we can have in the house!) we're sure we'll be using Arnold Schwarzenegger's line of, "I'll be back" before long! |

hmmm, your CPU is running max, but the cycles are not passed, because if this is W7 it's likely what GIBA mentioned. Stumbled on an article some time ago about the W7 energy saving features and may even have posted a link somewhere on these forums about this.
----------------------------------------edit: sort of similar to the 'nice' factor of 'idle' priority level process control as under MAC and Linux.

This was the very 1st thing we changed:
We got tired of wandering away and returning to find the system had decided it needed a coffee break and a siesta ![]() |

I notice that there is this line in the message log:
This means the local settings will override the settings on the website. So, in order to use the settings on the website, you will have to go to Tools (of the menubar)-->Preferences (or Advanced-->Preferences if you can't find Preferences under Tools), and then click the Clear button to erase the local settings. |

I'm impressed with the temps. My quad runs 55C all the time at 100% (room 28C) and 38C when idle.
----------------------------------------Nothing adds up though. Now I remember an interview with this Mark guy of Sysinternals... W7 would manage to move all idle processes onto a single core, so the CPU would start using less energy on the others, kind of a partial sleep mode, but your TM shows clearly 8 process threads at near 100% Anyway 14 hours CPU time reported and 50% is not right for FAAH. Presume you see actual progress on a continuous basis, not that they're stuck in a loop? How about fetching / switching project temporarily such as HCMD2, not Autodock based and suspend the FAAH jobs temporarily? These have a base 4 CPU hour limit, regardless of CPU speed. Same with RICE, these are 7 hour limited. If the credit gets poor you know it was slow. Ah yes and a little tool called Process Lasso. With that you can automatically increase the priority. For now increase to science priority to normal and see what happens. Doubt anything as they're internally coded to act as an idle process. Sort of random thoughts.

Sekerob,
We're using a panaflow 120 x 38mm CPU fan; in an Antec Twelve Hundred case. It spins at about 2700-2800 RPM and it's really very quiet considering how hard it's pushing air all the time; we had a delta 120 x 25 with a 5000+ RPM but it was way to loud. It's Mark Russinovich that's at sysinternals. Been reading his stuff and using his toys for a long time; well relatively speaking. Do you have an I7 920? what's your cpu benchmarks on WCG if you don't mind us asking. Thanks The kids |

GIBA, you mean like this? ![]() performance (its stock atm and we'd love to OC the bloody thing) ![]() ![]() as for cooling: So we are just stumped Edit: added the performance frames Edit 2: added the CPUZ shots Great settings and don't appear for me that you have issues here... Just some more suggestions, based on my experience, to improve a little bit more your performance and pontuation with returned results when all be in smooth mode with this machine (remember that I am thinking that this machine is dedicated to WCG, on the contrary forget about it): In the Processor parameter, set to YES when using batteries, if you have a no break. In the Graphics parameter, set to at minimum 3 frames per second and 2% of cpu (it is the default setting of WCG and works very good without interferences in a strong config like youis). In Memory usage parameters, I would like to suggest you set all to 100%, once anyone WU in WCG until now are memory eater, on the contrary, and probably with your strong config you will not note any difference, except if you will use this machine for some memory intensive application, and probably WCG WU's will "consume" maybe at most 2 GB in peak mode, and usually two times less in normal mode, considering your total physical memory. In Network Parameter, set to maximum download and upload rates that you have from your broadband conexion provider. In Disk parameter, set to maximum of your HDD have, once WCG use a very small part of your HDD as you can see in your BOINC Manager, in the DISK tab. The last tip but not least, and I don't have sure if it really have impact with performance, but works very well for me, is: In the BOINC Manager, click on ACTIVITY option on the menu bar at the top. Select RUN ALWAYS and Select NETWORK ACTIVITYALWAYS AVAILABLE (if apropriate with your conexion reality and machine usage). So, as mentioned by Moonian, click on ADVANCED option in the menu bar, and just to have sure that you are using yours profile settings, click on PREFERENCES, and at right side on ther top, click on CLEAR and click on YES in the popup. Just to mention, I guess that I7 dedicated machines, cruching actual FAAH WU don't spend more than 4-5 hours to complete the processing. Hope that with a little bit more time, as Didactylos mentioned, all became smooth and this machine came to the right way of crunch. ![]()
Cheers ! GIB@

No, it's just a plain Q6600 doing 2500/5500 there abouts. We/Me is not a clocker. Bought a ready to run box and been toying with the cooling, the latest addition inserting a separation wall sort of in Titanic style. It forces the air to flow out closer to the board and passing the GPU on the way out. That dropped it another 3C. Picture thus a pipe from outside right onto the CPU fan, the air pressing through the cooling ribs and controlling the flow so that the intake air does not get mixed with the exhaust air. The case wall replaced by a door that has 4 low rev fans in them, sucking the air out in opposite direction to the intake air.
----------------------------------------Try the priority change anyhow. Who knows. TheGrandKids as in TheBigKids?. The 'We' concept is nice. The ruler of the Netherlands speaks of herself as "We the Queen".
