What`s a "cruncher" then?

Can someone please answer a question which has been puzzling me for some time?
What do the terms "cruncher", "advanced cruncher" , "ace cruncher" etc in the left side of a post signify, since I have seen a "cruncher" who has 9 gold badges, and an "advanced cruncher" with only 6 bronze badges

Rick.

Re: What`s a "cruncher" then?

It's quite simple really - and no, it doesn't actually relate to how much CPU time you've contributed, just to the number of posts you've added in the forum.

For a more indepth description, please refer to the FAQ on it What do the "Cruncher" titles I see in the forum mean?

Re: What`s a "cruncher" then?

It's simply a function of the number of posts you make here. Crunching is not enough, you need to get 50 posts in e.g. before rising to Senior Cruncher annd so on until the highest grade at > 4000 when you become Ace Cruncher.

Re: What`s a "cruncher" then?

You can safely ignore these misleading forum grades which are simply confusing for new forum users. I would much like that "cruncher" be replaced by something more appropriate, or even that this feature of the forum software be simply de-activated.
Since the number of posts is clearly shown there is no need for these grades.

Just my 2 cents. Jean.

Edit: And since it has not been clearly stated in this thread, "cruncher" in the distributed computing jargon is short for "number cruncher" and can refer to either a machine doing that or the owner of such machines.

I would agree entirely. Perhaps "poster" would be more appropriate.

Only the Techs, Community Advisors and Scientists and other specials roles should still be visible, I guess.

These post-ranking might make some people post 'useless' messages to raise their ranking :-)

... is this a useless message from me? biggrin

Maybe it should be linked up too how many badges you have or something a little bit more relevant.... If it's possible...

Re: What`s a "cruncher" then?

personaly i would love it if they changed the titles of cruncher and such with a years crunched or something of the like... great way and its also kinda like badges since some people may crunch only 1 project and be Sapphire 4 ever and still choose not to crunch anything else.. just my idea on another way to rait users

Re: What`s a "cruncher" then?

I think we already discriminate enough between those who contribute a little and those who contribute a lot. I would be happy if the cruncher titles were scrapped altogether.

I do wonder, though, why the member names aren't linked to our stats page, and why our team is not included (similarly linked).
