Works done but not exported by BOINC Client [RESOLVED]

Hello,

For some weeks now, I face a situation where the BOINC client acculumlates all jobs done marking them as ready to export (one dozens or more), but never export them... at least not for several hours, or days, till I update manually the project.... I use this PC for more than one year now and I never saw this happens before.

BOINC Client 6.6.36, PC : bi-Xeon 4 quads, 4 Gb ram, Windows 2008 server 64 bits.

What can I do ?... I already made several BOINC client updates for a couple of weeks, since this problem first appeared.....

Francis

Re: Works done but not exported by BOINC Client

It is normal for BOINC to report tasks the next time it contacts the servers (usually when it requests more work).

World Community Grid's recommended BOINC version is 6.2.28.

Re: Works done but not exported by BOINC Client

Yes, I know that, may be I didn't explain correctly, so let's say that for a reason or another my client (on this particular machine, I have 10 others installed) doesn't contact anylonger or on a regular basis (compared to the previous months). Previously, I never saw more that a couple of jobs waiting for export, the updates usually automatically took place in a couple of hours. Now, all my jobs accumulates wiating to export (I mean for 48 hours or more) till I manually update the project. One time I had 20 jobs waiting, and no more jobs calculating or downloaded... So the system hang up.... And that's not new, it has been like this for one or two months now, I already have updated the client a couple of times, trying to fix this problem... I have also desinstalled completly the client, and installed it again with no sucess....

Re: Works done but not exported by BOINC Client

I need you to do two things:

1) Use the WCG recommended BOINC version (not the one available from Berkeley). We do not support BOINC 6.6.
2) Provide your message log. Use http://pastebin.ca if it is long.

Thank you.

Re: Works done but not exported by BOINC Client

Odd, for the fact that there is "ready to report" means that the result files were uploaded i.e. the net is working fine. How's the "Connect every X days" time set in your preferences?

The manual update overrides any scheduling, in fact, even if the line is closed it will open the line for 5 minutes.

6.6.36 has to me major scheduling issues, so except for 1 pc used as testbed, running either 6.2.28 or 5.10.45.

Re: Works done but not exported by BOINC Client

Actually, I believe I remember these problems appeared while I was using version 6.6.28, that's why I updated with newer releases. But, I realized there were 64 bis versions of BOINC client here http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php while on WCG download pages there is only 32 bits client. Could it be the reason ?....

I will restore back the 6.6.28 32 bits release on WCG download page and see if this is better...

Re: Works done but not exported by BOINC Client

Similar problems have occurred with people using 6.6, but sadly fixing it isn't usually quite so simple as just reverting to 6.2.

Still, it's step 1, and we can take it from there.

Re: Works done but not exported by BOINC Client

Salut fparlant!
Something else that we cannot see in your log: what is the size of your job queue and which projects are you crunching?

With a large job queue, say, more than 4 days, the yo-yo effect on estimated durations of the queued jobs may cause sharp jumps of the estimated duration of the total queue. When it happens the client will not ask for new work and thus will not report completed ones until the estimated duration of your job queue has come back to its normal level.

HCMD2 is pretty good at causing this yo-yo effect with periods where most WUs are parents running close to 4 hours or even more, alternating with periods where most WUs are children or grandchildren which are usually much shorter.

Read you later. Jean.
