Max '2 Core' Recognitions thread Badge

This thread is to recognise those folks who have a maximum of 2 cores crunching - either as 2 x 1-core or 1 x dual-core machine(s), no matter which of the lower badges (Bronze, Silver or Gold) that be, or in which project.

After all, as now that there's 3 new badge levels (Ruby, Emerald & Sapphire), it's virtually impossible and unrealistic for someone who's a "small time cruncher" (i.e., not with multiple machines under their control and all contributing to their personal statistics) to compete with those that have. Of course, this doesn't restrict those from aiming for higher badges in their 'pet' project(s), although, with at best, 45 day's worth of solid crunching to reach Gold, this will take time (no Gold badges here in 1.5 days etc.).

Thus, I think, for those who fall into this category (of which, I am one), a realistic target is to achieve Gold level in as many projects as they can - and this thread is to recognise those. Of course, they're more than welcome to post their recognition into each projects recognition thread - although there, they may feel somewhat eclipsed by those that have multiple years on several projects or that do achieve a badge within a matter of hours of a new project starting. Below, you'll find links to each of these threads.

Therefore, apart from the CA's, WCG techs, project scientists etc., I'd expect to see very few Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire badges displayed.

Project specific recognition threads
Beta Testing
Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together
FightAIDS@Home
Help Conquer Cancer
Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy - Phase 2
Help Fight Childhood Cancer
Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2
Influenza Antiviral Drug Search
Nutritious Rice for the World
The Clean Energy Project

Edit - as pointed out by Jean, this thread is only for those with a MAX of 2 cores - be it, with 2 separate machines with just 1 core in each, or 1 machine with 2 cores (i.e., at best, with all available resources pointed at one project, able to achieve Gold in 45 days)

Permit me look in my computer corner for a device with an IBM/Lenovo sticker on it... nope don't see even the remotest sign and typing this on my self funded laptop. It has 2 cores.

Since badges are based on runtime I think you should make it clear if somebody with two P4 HT running two WUs each (or one P4 HT and a normal one-core) is eligible or not. If I get you correctly I think "not", but it will be simpler if you state it officially.

I have one which produces 2 days of runtime per calendar day, but my other machine is a quad, so I am out of the game anyway. smile

Cheers. Jean.

Re: Max '2 Core' Recognitions thread Badge

Basically, this thread is aimed at those who, at best, no matter what computer configuration they've got, can only achieve Gold after 45 days of solid crunching on 1 project.

I would have limited it to those who, at best, can achieve a Gold badge in 90 days, although the number of single core computers will be getting less by the day - especially with the rate of progress in computer technology and the frequency in which people upgrade their machines.

Re: Max '2 Core' Recognitions thread Badge

I am running 3 cores, 1 x 1-core, and 1 x 2-core (P4 HT). Unfortunately not 24/7.

I am about 8hrs away from my Gold in HPF2, but was not focusing on an individual project until recently, when I decided to get Gold in each project, one at a time.

So I don't know how long it will take me to reach Gold when exclusively focusing on a project, will only know for the next one.

I don't know what the point is here. I ran for years with a ThinkPad (IBM and then Lenovo) before getting an HP quad core. The reason I am replying now is my son wants to build his own system even though he currently has an HP duo core. We have been trying to connect to the internet with wireless and have not had much luck. We do get info saying the signal strength is high but we are unable to connect. Do you know of a forum (someplace) to help with this? We really want to get the wireless working...

If you have good signal strength, you either have bad hardware or need to RTFM .

Re: Max '2 Core' Recognitions thread

My point was that it's assumed that our appointment as CA seemingly brings with it the access to large amounts of processing power.

Now Wifi, I think you landed in the wrong thread. Suggest to open a new one with fitting title, so it does not get lost. Here's a link to a site that helps configure for hundreds of routers/adsl modems and all

http://www.portforward.com/

but you need to get the protocol information from the ISP first. Mine is PPPoE/PPPoA LLC/ Snap-Bridging which applies to most DSL users, says the manual. Most parts are usually pre-filled already. Best is you first set up with ethernet cable connected, then start working on activating the wifi from the computer, first without encryption as that's the finicky part. When it's working, disconnect the cable to see if things continue, so you'll need 2 IP addresses.

Anyway, open a new thread and surely an experience WIFI cruncher is able to help out. This forum is fine for that.

Ah Sek, that's what your point was (I was rather confused when I originally saw it - and thus, I just let it float off into the ether). I thought I'd made it clear enough in the first post, that, this thread is to recognise the "small time crunchers", no matter which of the projects they may have achieved them in, allowing them to not be over awed by the multi/super crunchers that are around when they post their recognition in the other project badges threads.

Obviously (as again, I thought I'd made it clear in the first post), the "special members" (i.e. CA's, WCG techs and project scientists etc.,), are still welcome to post here - even though they may have several Sapphire badges to display. Other than they though, I'd expect to see only the odd badge here and there of the higher ranking recognitions.

BTW, I may not quite have been as confused with your post, if I weren't crunching with a computer provided by my employer - which just so happens to be a Lenovo T61... laughing

Re: Max '2 Core' Recognitions thread Badge

Does this thread include people who might have 2 dual core machines loaded, but only use one machine at any one time?
