There is a free program (for personal use) called Secunia PSI which scans your computer and tells you which are insecure and how to fix them. Normally its just a simple update to the latest version.
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ I first heard of it from PC Magazine and now I recommend it to all Windows users. It is a pretty handy program. Thought I should share this with the community if people haven't heard. They are also looking for help translating.
