As the members are aware, we had a number of batches that ran for an extended period of time only to error out due to the result file exceeding its allowed size. These workunits have now been entirely canceled and no more results for these workunits will be distributed. If you want to check if any of the workunits that you are running are part of the errant batches, then do the following:
----------------------------------------
If one of the workunits on your computer is part of the errant batches, then the server will respond with a message to abort the result (even if it is currently running). We have also gone ahead and granted credit for all results returned in these errant batches that were still in the database. The credit granted is equal to the claimed credit reported by the client. The workunits in the errant batches contained definition files where the atoms were positioned too close together. This caused the research application to generate a large number of warnings about possible bad results. These warnings are what generated the very large return files. Last week we canceled all un-started workunits and workunits that had already returned an error due to too large result files. However, at that time there was still believed to be some workunits that were running smoothly and would produce valid results. These are the workunits that members have continued to observe over the past week. We have since been informed that all the workunits are invalid. We have now canceled the remaining workunits. All workunits within the errant batches are now stopped. We apologize for the lack of responsiveness and information that we have provided regarding this issue. Unfortunately, due to vacations and holidays and simple miscommunication internally, this was not handled up to our preferred level of support. EDIT: We missed a set of results that should have credit granted due to this issue. We have just now awarded credit to those results. EDIT2: Clarified that credit was granted for result that were still present in the database. [Edit 2 times, last edit by knreed at Jul 8, 2009 7:11:24 PM] |

Hi Kevin.
----------------------------------------Thank you a lot for left this post. was boring this hapenned fact, but is part of our contribution face some issues on the way. Thank you too for granted credit for all results returned in these errant batches. It's a great notice. i pick and crunch someones in my machines which finished in errors. So let continue crunch CEP now in right batches. ![]()

Yes, thanks for eventually explaining all. Hopefully, if/when things such as this happens again, someone can be a little more proactive in keeping the 'users' (crunchers) informed as to what's going on

Thanks for the detailed response, it is appreciated
We have also gone ahead and granted credit for all results returned in these errant batches. The credit granted is equal to the claimed credit reported by the client. Thanks as well for doing this. In the grand scheme of things these few hours/days don't mean a whole lot but it is annoying to those that it did happened to. Does this also apply to those units that WCG force aborted while they were running (or were aborted after the first round of point distribution)? I had a couple of units (93% done finally (really old & slow computer )) that were aborted last night & I'm sure that there will be more coming in over the next few days as other computers report in. I just didn't want them lost in the shuffle as everything gets back to normal. |

I have to run a manual step which I will do periodically over the next 3 days so there will be a slight delay. However, if you go check your results you will see that they have been awarded credit. |

EDIT: We missed a set of results that should have credit granted due to this issue. We have just now awarded credit to those results. I still miss about 20 days for errored work. Can it be that there's another set somewhere which needs to have credit granted, or is the update process not finished yet? BTW great job you're doing! ![]() |

Can you give me the name of a result that you have identified that should have been granted credit? That will let me look into it.
