Well, I just got finished taking a week off from life. It was great! I did NOTHING! LOL
----------------------------------------I floated in the pool, drank beer, listened to music (while floating in the pool). I didn't even notice that my weather station had crashed for two days! It's nice to be back to the living, though. Lots of news happened that I manged to ignore - now, I'm interested again. I noticed that June was the coolest month on record for California. Hmm.... Must be global warming. Now it's nice and warm, again. Only 103, though.. not hot, yet. The pool is 85, though. Now, when I get home from work, there is a trail of clothes from the garage to the pool. Then, a trail of water from the pool to the fridge (always forget to grab a beer first). I love this time of year! ![]()

The new badge colors:
----------------------------------------1) Are counter-intuitive. Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire are better than gold? At least before it made some sense. 2) Too many colors loses meaning -irrational meanings and finally, what are these badges for in the first place? I want to know the real purpose behind all the different color badges for all the projects. Is it to cause people with resources to spread them as much as possible to achieve the highest level in all projects? Is it to get people with fewer resources to concentrate them on one project? Doesn't it have both these effects? Why would WCG want to do that? Does it make sense to attempt to manipulate the people who are contributing their resources on a strictly altruistic basis? Certainly it is not to indicate overall contribution; we have points, (already a rubber ruler) for that. So it must be some sort of effort to manipulate the way people allocate their resources to projects. Why ![]() |

and finally, what are these badges for in the first place? RT -- the badges were designed to quickly highlight a member's accomplishments as well as to give them something to shoot for. |

Done separately, it might have been harder sticking with precious metals. What's after gold? Titanium, platinum, then what? Plus you need something that has different colors too. So precious gems are more valuable than precious metals I guess. Ruby, emerald, sapphire also leaves the possibility of diamond for five years maybe? Just guessing at all this though. As for why the badges, probably the same reasons we have points to begin with. It's a lot like why MOT has its milestones and Hall of Fame banners. A sense of tangibility and accomplishment along with goals to aim for. That's important for some folks; others are fine without them. |

I was happy with the points--just like playing marbles which i was never good at--By the way did we ever get the UD problem fixed>? How about all that Protein folding we did 2004-2005 and i think their were some others[Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 17, 2009 1:24:13 AM] |

All the numbers on the WCG site are accurate. It's just that the points from UD are not included on the external sites like BOINCStats and such plus WCG points are the dog year version of BOINC credits (seven times as much). |
