anyone seen any websites with two i7 processor core pcs? I thought I saw a few when I first started looking at buying a new computer.. now i can't find those websites.. :( Dr. Mike.. If you mean two i7 processors on one board - no. The i7 does not support two sockets (i.e. two i7 chips in the same system). You need to look at Xeon chips if that's what you are looking for. The Xeon 5500 series are the same generation / equivalent technology to the i7, IIRC. In my experience, Xeon processors and motherboards and the systems they go into are not worth the extra cost in most cases. - D Darth is correct. If you are thinking of 8-core crunching it is done on the i7 by hyperthreading a quad. IMHO, hyperthreading sucked and I, for one, did not like seeing it re-emerge. But opinions vary. ![]() I agree - I can't believe that Intel brought HT back. I was hoping it was a thing of the past...

LOL Sometimes he doesn't know what he wants.. lol thanks for the links, and some advice.. basically I can't find a computer already built that I like.. and I don't know enough about customizing one on a website to do justice.. don't want to build something I can't use.. Dr. Mike.. ![]() Ok, here's the solution. Give us your total budget for a pc including shipping and graphics. Let those of us who are interested spec out pcs and compare and contrast their merits. Then you can make an informed decision. |

Okay, i'll make it sort of like a "contest".. I've been known to help out other people above and beyond the "call of duty" so to speak.. so, if I do end up buying something, I might accidentally buy an extra video card.. that I won't use/need.. that might find its way into someone's mailbox.. (dang my sense of humor is dry..)
----------------------------------------1) I have an HP monitor.. i'm guessing most pc's can hook up to it without a problem.. 2) Budget: I'll say 2000, but i'd like to spend less... (who wouldn't..) 3) would like microsoft word on it.. 4) main uses: wcg, of course.. some gaming, but nothing terribly graphically intensive.. 5) would like wireless networking.. will keep the pc I have now, and also connect my mother's laptop (upstairs) to the network.. 6) I play some music (itunes..) 7) have an HP printer too.. almost forgot.. compatibility issues? any questions, feel free to ask.. i'll update and check in as much as possible.. Dr. Mike.. ![]() It's on. DM, Blizzie, Keith, Gerald, any other comers, do your worst! Just one question Mike, if you already play games on your PC, are you going to want to crunch with the GPU when you're not playing? If so, you might want to invest in a better, faster graphics card. But at this point, I think the best value per dollar is either the 260 core 216 or 275 depending on one's preferences and the particular deal. |
