I do not like that to much. I started to run HPF 5 hours ago and I had already 7 failures. All my other systems are doing fine with HPF.

Re: Many WU in error on one of my PC's

Create a Device profile with your projects, minus HPF2 and associate the hosts to that. Vista works or does not. Reasin unknown. Hopefully soon, this year the WCG techs can create a server side memory for clients that don't do well on this project so they don't keep coming when "all projects" and / or "if no work is available..." wastes download resources and seconds to hours of useless processing time... even if there are not many who have this exit out on HPF2.

Re: Many WU in error on one of my PC's

Ok I created a profile for my Quad so it doesn't receive any more HPF, thank you very much Sekerob!

I hope you fix that problem soon so HPF can operate with full power smile

Re: Many WU in error on one of my PC's

Just to say that I got the error too. I'm using Vista, and the WU that failed was ml128_00047. It stopped after running for 6.49 hours. Checking the WU status indicates other machines that got errors, but I seem to be the only one with a significant run time before the error.

The machine earlier had managed to complete and validate ml073_00023. The WU status shows none of the other machines have errors, except for one "invalid".

By looking at the screensaver graphics I noticed that the failed one was a much bigger protein than the successful one. Of course, that isn't a very representative sample size, but might help in troubleshooting.

Re: Many WU in error on one of my PC's

Just to say, my PC got errors in PF2, about 50% until the end of May, all of it (in error or pending) since.
All other programs have only occasional errors lately.

Perhaps useful for trouble shooting ?

Re: Many WU in error on one of my PC's

Hi!

I am also experiencing problems with some WUs. Boinc 6.6.36 running on Vista SP2, Quad Core. But some Boinc 6.6.x version (not sure which) runs fine with hpf2 WUs for me.

Many WUs will abort in the first seconds. But I also have WUs which ran fine, until I shutdown my Pc, when I start my Pc again and the hpf2 WUs are starting at the checkpoint the show the same error after a few seconds.

For example:
mm511_00028_11 3.32 hours
mm482_00071_2 3.80 hours
ml715_ 00007_ 1 1.04 hours

Maybe this help in troubleshooting the problem. Downgrading to an older Boinc client is not an alternative for me, because I am a guy who want to be up to date.

Re: Many WU in error on one of my PC's

There are 2 issues with Vista and reading with W7 too.

1. A shutdown bug that damages the tasks in progress, but that should not be restricted to just HPF2. Version 6 solved this, but there is a workaround for version 5. Don't install to C:\Windows\Program Files.

2. For entirely unknown reason HPF2 will for a good number of people not run on these 2 platforms (Vista, and yet few reports for W7 RC1). Attach these computers to a separate Device Profile, deselecting HPF2 in the custom section of the device profile. It's random, cause totally obscure.

Not downgrading to 5.10.45 and installing to e.g. C:\Userdata\BOINC or reverting to a version you know HPF2 works with...which exactly all would like to know?, not being an option is your personal choice. Then you'll have to live without the HPF2 badge, if you fancy them ;>)

Re: Many WU in error on one of my PC's

Sure it's my personal choice :)

Now I have 3 HPF2 WUs which work fine and are almost completed on the same computer.

It must be a 6.6.2x version which ran fine for my computer, I am totally sure that the problem didn't exist for me with version 6.6.20. Unfortunately I cannot download this old versions anywhere from berkeley.edu.

I am participating for the projects and not for badges, the badges are a nice side effect for me which show me that I am able to help these projects. There are many other Boinc projects out there, but not all of them will improve our future. I really very like the wcg and it's projects, because I think this will improve all our lives, and maybe could save lives. I am also a bit proud to be able to help projects which realize that, without having skills for the different projects.

6.6.20 is still downloadable from Berkeley, at least for the Windows version: http://boincdl.ssl.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_6.6.20_windows_intelx86.exe
