Re: spams solutions thread

Oops, did i misunderstand what you said Jean Pierre ?
In that case, i'm sorry. blushing
But anyway, what i said about to implement a Captcha is my opinion.
And i don't change it.
If there was hundreds of spam every week, i would agree for Captcha, not for a few.
The problem is may be :
What is the acceptable limit of spam before the implemtation of a solution that will take time to the thousands members that post her, and specially for CA's and very active members like you, JP

One thing every body agree here, i think, is that we like that forum without spam, isn't it ?

Re: spams solutions thread

boulmontjj, I don't think a captcha would help. As far as I can see, all the spam we get is posted manually by human spambots.

Spam filters are available for forums, but integrating one with ours may be difficult. We will make sure this is revisited when the forums get upgraded.

Re: spams solutions thread

Exactly Didactylos,

If there is a few spams, that mean there are posted manually and a captcha would not solve the problem. It is more efficient to delete them manually.
If there were thousands, this could mean that there are posted by robots and in that case, a captcha would help admin to keep that forum clean like it is.
And i think that there is no need to implement captcha for the moment and make lost time to members that post here regularly and seriously.

If there is an other solution, i did not know it.

Re: spams filter

Just quoting myself on post 4 in this thread.
You want a reCaptcha for every post you make? No thanks as the number of spam posts is just totally and utterly insignificant, still after more than 4 years of WCG. Automated spammers wont get in anyhow.

reCaptcha requiremes to type 2 words, phrases, character combinations, at least that's how it's implemented in a place I post also. Not sure if required on edits too, for that would be even worse. That site does not allow edits. It got post approval and consequently some discussions are seriously disconnected as no one can see each others replies until the admin comes by. Now that would speed up support ;P

Ok Jean Pierre,

I just read again all this thread and i apologize for my first post where i thought that you wanted a captcha.

It seem that every body here agree to say that it is not the solution.
Am i right ?

Re: spams filter

A post in reply to mine of the 21st was rewritten/augmented on the 22nd, so a conversation on that basis is difficult on who said what and consequential misunderstandings.

Added: I tend not to reply with quotation, but maybe I should start doing that, with great reluctance.

Re: spams solutions thread

I don't know about the *cough* BBS software we use here, but can't you turn off the ability to use BB codes for certain users?

So if someone has less than say 20 posts, they can post text to their hearts content, but no links, images, videos or anything that would be visually offensive and accessible to children.

You could also limit new users to 1-5 posts per day so they couldn't get around the post limit. Or, you could combine the post requirement with a time requirement - all of which would run without any intervention from admins.

Whatever new software eventually (geologically speaking) gets installed will have these capabilities.
