BOINK making my CPU fluctuate

So I've got this running at home, and I dropped a CPU and Memory gadget on my desktop, and the CPU meter goes from 10% to 100% and keeps rising & falling consitently around those areas. I'm concerned that this will add to initial wear and tear of my quad-core system.

IS this supposedly normal?

Re: BOINK making my CPU fluctuate

You're probably on the standard device profile that uses 60% of total spare CPU cycles (per core running 3 seconds, pausing 2 seconds). For a desktop you can switch without any drawback to the maximum output profile.
