Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 33 smilesmile

I should be moving to Missouri at the end of next week. Not sure what i'll do with my current desktop, other than I might hook it up when I get there.

I would like to buy a new desktop for my office. Any ideas where and what I should buy?

Mike..

What do you need to do with the new one other than crunch, Mike?

About time those quotes ended.. They were getting obnoxious.

@NiceMedTexMD: Depends what you want. Probably a pre-manufacturered one unless you know how to build. In that case I can choose the parts for you.

@Jonathan: Send me that card already! laughing

@Dataman: Third person.. I forgot what I wanted to say. I think I'm getting old.

Someone is going to yell at me but I think the Dell XPS Studio with the I7 (2.66Ghz) is a pretty good deal
I just looked and one of these is what I bought for crunching a while back. It is good for that ... for sure. Someone will likely complain about the graphics capability and that may be true if you want really good graphics..but this seems adequate to me. Also, dpepending on what you order you may or may not get a display.

Enjoy Missouri and persumably your new job. You, for sure, need to stay in touch with us here.

Dell is nice for the average user.

I despise of all manufacturers. laughing

I would hold off on the i7 until the new D0 stepping comes out.

Does GPUGrid lose performance if video cards are mixed and matched?

For example, for Folding@Home you have to use the same cards. If for example I have a 260 GTX and a 9800GT in the same mobo. The 9800GT will take a 40-60% performance loss.

Thought about asking on their forums but I figured I'll ask here first.

I vaguely remember hearing about that. Right there in the heartland; Not what one would expect. At the time, I was in the panhandle of Texas where you could watch a Jackrabbit run away from you all day long. smile (It is that flat) smile smile
