Well, if it is a sign of Spring, it's not a very good one. It is snowing pretty heavy here right now. It was 72F here today. My peas, onions, peppers, radishes and corn have sprouted. Others will follow soon. The chicks are starting to look like chickens.   And what are you going to do with those poor chickens? Eat their eggs in the summer and fall ... eat them in the winter. Well that makes me feel better--back in the 80s i had a dozen Rhode Island Reds and they were good layers also a neighbor gave me about twenty Game Chickens. they were beautiful.I just let them run in the open.The Reds would roost in the chicken house and the others would go up in the trees-- |

Well that makes me feel better--back in the 80s i had a dozen Rhode Island Reds and they were good layers also a neighbor gave me about twenty Game Chickens. they were beautiful.I just let them run in the open.The Reds would roost in the chicken house and the others would go up in the trees-- Mine are Rhode Island's too. Large bird, good layers and very cold and heat tolerant. The latter is important here in the summer. Next year I am going to buy some quail. I have a lot quail around here but it is illegal to kill them and it worries my neighbour when she sees me walking around with a shotgun. One year I tried to trap some quail but all I caught was my barn cat (twice) and a possum.   |
