Re: Re:

Fraid I dont think the yellow peas will work

Marrow fat peas are the desired pea these tins are a poor substitute for the real thing but convenient.
I do like a sprig of mint with mine.and the picture shows the peas are still just formed.
With your yellow peas you could make "Pease Pudding"

Pease pudding hot!
Pease pudding cold!
Pease pudding in the pot
Nine days old.
these peas are more of a purée and use the yellow split peas

Re: Re:

Evening all

I could never understand the addiction to mushy peas, I always liked mine very fresh and best eaten straight from the pod.
It took me a long time to cotton on to broad beans because I always remembered them as fat beasts with wrinkly skins. Now, small and fresh, they must be almost favorite vegetable.

I find it rather sad that, with the advent of supermarkets and worldwide trading, the seasons have largely disappeared and things have increasingly become bland. No wonder there's a long waiting list for allotments around here.

The one thing that hasn't changed is Heinz baked beans and I've never tired of them so every couple of weeks or so I indulge with a can on toast with a bit of Daddies sauce to give some punch.

Re: Re:

With the new information you gave me, I don't think the yellow split peas will work either.
However, diving into the subject reveals that we seem to have a British shop in Copenhagen
where they have the real thing.
Health food stores and ethnic stores are said to probably have it, too, and in Sweden and Germany it should be common
... so, it's only a question of prying myself loose from the computer and fire up Rosie.
Do you have regional differences in how you like to eat it?
Scribe says sugar and vinegar
- others?
Do you serve it as a side dish with meat, poultry or fish?

Re: Re:

Mushy peas/Marrow fat peas are chalk and cheese to fresh peas horses for courses .
I love fresh "garden" peas (Fresh as the moment that the pod went Pop ) with new potatoes and a gammon steak.
Child hood memories of shucking a bowl of fresh picked peas into a basin ready for sunday lunch you needed to pick twice as many as required for the table as they do taste so good raw
I also remember the row of peas shaking as I looked out of the window. No wind a perfect still day it was the dog doing a bit of PYO !!

I also love fresh young broad beans again maybe with a gammon steak .
I will be eating The mushy peas tonight with Fish and chips
I dont like the chippys mushy peas hence the stash . His battered fish is the best in town.

Re: Re:

Thank you for expanding, don den.
I love peas from the pod, too,
but now I try to take my open-mindedness to where my mouth is so to speak.

It turns out that I don't have to leave the computer tongue
I can order online
- and have free delivery - COD - if ordering for DKK 500 or more.
So, what should I choose?
For DKK 500 dried marrow peas may be slightly to the wild side
- especially if I don't like it
- but Abigail's Shop may offer a chance of trying your fare just for the fun of it
- so why not? Much of it probably has a long shelf life.
Abigail's Shop's Catalogue

I tried something I think is rather British once upon a time: Kidneys in burgundy sauce. Do you like that?
Oh, no, it's not in the catalogue

Re: Re:

Not sure what you mean by your post Den. But then I am on the point of chucking my "machine" through the window! Totally messed up - can't restore it to what it should be - and the time I am wasting is horrendous! sad crying Looks like I shall have to get the 'man' in but intend to cogitate on that one. Think I shall concentrate on the dust everywhere instead, just in case anyone calls in! Bye for now ...........! confused sad crying
