A beautiful day here but the forecast not so good for those having firework parties tomorrow. That won't include me, I haven't even bought a sparkler. |

The old home town Eden bridge always had a big celebration on the fifth brass and silver bands from all over each street concocted a float to parade through the town
----------------------------------------The Guy at the head of the procession the bonfire bishop who read the bonfire prayer the fire was lit by some pop star..... Petula Clark did it once and a big fat bloke with a cigar who lived just up the road at Chartwell also obliged Any way up,the Eden bridge Bonfire society is still in operation They now feature some infamous "personality" to construct as a 25 foot effigy stuffed full of fireworks We have had Saddam , Edwina Curry to name but two This year its Wayne Rooney I hasten to add its a effigy & Not the actual Roon Wany ![]() |

----------------------------------------********************* my little adventure that I promised from yesterday In fact a bit of a non event.... Yesterday afternoon a co worker was in the food cupboard and thought she had seen a "MOUSE".... Okay lets tip every thing out .............. no evidence of rodent occupation..... but we found a trap door I have only been in the building since 1992 but didn't know it existed With some hammer and BIG screw driver work we managed to lift it To show some steps going down and a foot of water A bit of a let down but it seems it was just a corridor big thinks as to its purpose its under what was an heated orangery. building dates from 1890's we have a celler under the front of the house a boiler house is the wrong side of the wall from our latest discovery but the thought is it might just be a coal hole dont hold your breath but we is thinking |

Evening all
When I lived in Three Bridges and went to school in East Grinstead I knew of the Edenbridge bonfire night but never had the transport to make it there. In any event fireworks were pretty limited and the competition was Lewes where they rolled a flaming tar barrel down the hill. We just had a few ex-army thunder-flashes. The best event I actually attended was in Ottery St Mary in Devon where the crowds gather for flaming barrel races starting with the boys who have a pin, then moving up the scale until the real MEN compete for the championship with the real full barrel size. They run through the avenue of spectators and the pubs serve all the beer in plastic 'glasses' until the whole thing winds down at midnight and the locals continue their own parties at home. The impressive thing was when you got out again and nine the next morning, there was no indication that any such thing has happened. I've now just heard my first bang, but it's not very close. The council has a borough event tomorrow evening. If it's hidden treasure Den, we probably won't hear from you again! |
