Good morning all
---------------------------------------- I like CFLs except I cant get the wattage I need for all my lamps. IE I have an antique table lamp that requires 15 watt bulbs or the effect of the stained glass is ruined. No 15 watt equivalent CFLs are available. On the other hand, my mom was paying for a dusk to dawn light which uses a metal halide lamp (wattage? who knows) she cancelled the service and we bought a dusk to dawn light for $60 that uses a 300watt equivalent CFL and gives off more llight and operates for less $$$. Power was out yesterday, cost me about 175 hours of processor time and a 12 port hub. And the power company is raising the price again. Much higher and I'll be able to uy a diesel generator to power my house, shop and moms house and run it for less than the power bill. Between the 3 we're paying around $700 month. 1 year ago it was about $350. Anywho, y'all have a great day. ![]()

It's certainly got a bit cooler but at least it's (mostly) dry. Dealt with the cards so can get those in the post tomorrow just before we get some from people we've thought were in the past and a card suddenly arrives. |

I think I must be a bit previous - I did all mine last week. And I have already received 30 and the postman hasn't been here yet this morning! Anyone got any good ideas about how to display them? I have no surfaces left!!

That's what comes from being a star Merle. I think we've got about 10 so far. It's always a problem finding somewhere to display them and where they won't collapse down to the floor as soon as there's a draft. I know some people hang them on a string on the wall which looks quite pretty but makes it difficult for anyone to read them - or perhaps that's the idea. I'm an old traditionalist and so Christmas doesn't start until Christmas Eve when I bring the tree in and, with a glass of wine, we then do all the decorating and get the cards out to display and put the presents under the tree. Then, on twelfth night we do the reverse. |

I have decided I am not doing christmas cards this year. It's not a case of bah-humbug, I have decided to go with Oxfam's alternative Christmas gift idea where you donate the money you save to charity to help the developing world.
http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/oxfam-unwrapped I'm always surprised by complaints about the light quality or the duration of eco bulbs. you're so right! we only have eco bulbs in our house(the flemish term translates as 'saving lamps') and they work great, we're now trying LED lamps also, but we're still looking for the right "light colour" I'd really like to try LED lights out in my house! I've got an LED from light for my bike. It has a blue-ish tinge to it, so when I set it to flashing mode it looks like a police raid! ![]() |

Evening all That's what comes from being a star Merle. I think we've got about 10 so far. No, I think it is more about being 'old' and having collected a lot of friends along the way!! I usually get about 60 in all by the time Christmas actually gets here! ![]() |

Feels a bit more like winter today and we've got out 'Village' carols round the Christmas tree this evening so I better dress up warm even though there will be some gluwien first. Sleet promised for tomorrow - smashing. |
