Some very bright sunshine out there
---------------------------------------- but hard frost don't mind that as long as its dry still in a high,1034 mbar Tree went up last night ..... all the lights worked !!! Which is more than I can say for lights I fitted in kitchen to replace a set of low voltage spot lights over work surfaces the transformer kept failing, over heating, unable to find replacement and not wanting a fire in the wrong place in kitchen I purchased what seemed to be the new eco friendly alternative .They are rubbish ,and dont seem to give out light ?? But I've saved the planet Going to plan "B" today. |

Evening all
Temperature getting a little more like winter now but not to the extend of frost down here in the Smoke. I bought eco replacements for my kitchen mini screw bulbs and they've worked a treat and are just as bright as the spots they replaced. In fact, I now have only to find a source for the full size screw spots (of which I have but two) to complete the house. I'm always surprised by complaints about the light quality or the duration of eco bulbs. Some of mine have been going for at least 5 years with no sign of failing. I feel it sort of balances the fact that this beast in front of me is on 24/7. I read a piece today discussing why people don't take Global Warming seriously and one of the comments was that the elderly think it won't happen in their life time so what the Hell. In fact, my observation seems to show the opposite. When I look at the checkouts each week the majority of pensioners are bringing their own bags and it's more often the mother with child on the trolley that uses twenty or more to put their stuff in. We really should follow the Irish and charge 25p a bag. As it is, I get a point for each bag I use and as I use large Lakeland shoppers that, with the other bits amounts to just 5 bags which will probable take me a year to earn a quid. That's hardly going to convert anyone. Weekend rant over. Have a good time Skipper and Guitar Man |

The world was a blazing ball of fire when it started, it then cooled down so far that we had an ice age, now its warming up again. The world has looked after itself since time began, do WE really believe we have the answer?
----------------------------------------Anyway, I am about to close down for about a week. So take care of each other and try to still be here when I get back (assuming the world dosn't end whilst I am away.) And Evy, your comment is making me smile! Love to you and regards to H. Merle, got the card , thanks. Bye for now....... [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 12, 2009 6:59:19 PM] |

I'm always surprised by complaints about the light quality or the duration of eco bulbs. you're so right! we only have eco bulbs in our house(the flemish term translates as 'saving lamps') and they work great, we're now trying LED lamps also, but we're still looking for the right "light colour" shopping with your own re-usable bag is a great excuse to buy more bags (you can never have enough bags...or shoes) ![]() |

My poor lamp performance was due to my wrong choice of lamp now corrected
---------------------------------------- The CFL,s are in my experience not all they are cracked up to be not long lived and not as bright .The lamps have electronic gubbins in the base If the lamp is fitted in a fitting glass upwards heat is allowed to disperse with no adverse effects. If fitted as from a ceiling fitting heat goes and cooks the electrickery . I replace failed lamps on a regular basis at work. Switching lights on and off shortens their life and output decreases with time .Im not talking about flicking the things on and off They just have a longer life if allowed to reach optimum working temperature for longer periods not switching on and off as you move about your abode ? Your experience's Ivan & Evy seems to shoot down my theory Think the jury's still out http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8406923.stm >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Shopping Bags are long life here. I don't have a plastic bag mountain in the cupboard under the stairs always thought it a waste to put sealed packets of food into bags & when you get home you chuck the lot in the bin(its non recyclable ) The bags live in the car boot. Should I forget to take them into the store I just reload the trolley and decant the spoils of my travails in the Aisle's into the bags when I get back to the car. |
