Re: Re:

Motherboard didn't fix problem. Tried to tell that idiot at HP it needed a power supply, but what do I know, I only work with 29 servers, 15 desktops, 2 laptops and a netbook on a daily basis.

On a good note, got my new 24 core machine in yesterday and it's up and crunching biggrin Now if BOINC would just fix the Android issues, I could have even more devices crunching.

Re: Re:

Yeah over the past couple years I've picked up quite a few Dell Precision 490s at a great price and them upgraded them to dual quads. A little looking and it's possible to do this for $80 - $120 especially if you find a dual dual core so all you have to buy are 2 quad processors of the same group.
The 24 core machines (Dell Precision T5500) I got were quite a bit more but with dual hex cores hyperthreaded I get 3 times the processors and they draw just slightly more power than a 490 so it's a win win deal. smile Of course now I have 7 of the 8 core 490s sitting around but I should be able to get them crunching later this year.

Re: Re:

I wish I knew half of what people think I know about computers. LOL Mostly I've learned by just messing with them. I buy all my Precisions off ebay. Even picked up one for $47 including shipping (which usually runs about $30)....it had a 3.2 dual chip which I had to stick with (it wouldn't accept the quads) but it's a hyper chip so by adding a second ($30 for chip and heat sink) I still got 8 core out it. If you decide to invest in one of these machines, let me know and I'll tell you what to look for and what to avoid.

Y'all have a great day. cool
