Anybody an update for the use of CUDA in the near future? The last answer was No. Nothing has changed. Nothing has promised any change either. |

I have to ask why we would need CUDA when I haven't SEEN a CEP wu in over a week, so why would we need to process almost no existent work any quicker

Maybe right Bav..But CUDA may change the look on the problems. Isn't there a new revolution of solar panels (Carbonbased-carbone tubes) out, maybe for production already, with the use of IR rays, has an eff. of 90% (invention of a 12 year old smart boy). With the current solars we only have 15% at max.
----------------------------------------Cuda may compute a better design for the solars or get more eff. out of the current ones. In the beginning of the post I had a link that said it all. And yes, the wu will run out much faster because CPU is slower and GPU has a lot of cores thus very fast, 2-10 times faster at some points. I run SETI and similar projects, isn't it the way to get an answer faster by computing/crunching faster. Maybe it will find cures more quickly or benefit mankind. Am I wrong here? Thx all for the reply. Mark [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 15, 2009 11:24:31 PM] |

Do ANY World Community Grid projects use CUDA?
Im asking as I have a CUDA capable card and Boinc tells me, Cuda Devices Found, but I dont get any other message such as, using cuda device for work unit... so I'm guessing not. I know most WCG work units take several hours on a good CPU, especially the CEP work units, so I would not expect the WCG team to develop code to run tasks on a GPU. |

Hello skgiven,
We do not have any projects coded to run CUDA. There is a project that is considering CUDA, but until they have it debugged and running on their computer, we can not consider boarding it for WCG. Lawrence |

I would not expect the WCG team to develop code to run tasks on a GPU. And again, the WCG team does not develop the science applications. It is the responsibility of the labs to make them. The WCG team does "only" what is necessary to have them work properly in WCG. Cheers. Jean. |

We do not have any projects coded to run CUDA. Lawrence Thanks for making that clear. I thought this might be the case. 3 Pages going on about CUDA, and the WCG does not even use CUDA! ![]() |

We have to be patient, future will tell I hope..:)
Thx for support, if you want to use the Cuda feature, Seti@home and GPUgrid will have you card very busy..:) Kind regards, Mark |
