Maybe this project needs CUDA

Just an idea, is CUDA maybe a good idea for this project?

Kind regards,

Mark

Re: Maybe this project needs CUDA

Hello Mark Peters,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHARMM
CHARMM is a giant Fortran program (first conceived in 1969) that has been commercially available since the 1980's. The most recent release was in late 2008. You could ask Accelrys if they are interested in reprogramming it for CUDA. Personally I cringe at the thought of debugging a new CUDA version.

Seems like the Wikipedia entry needs updating to explain the use of CHARMM for CEP! ;)

Re: Maybe this project needs CUDA

I crunch now for SETI with BOINC 6.4.5, CUDA is used. is CEP ready to be used at my version of BOINC? I didn't recieve any data for CEP yet. How do I crunch the data for CEP?

Thanks in advance.

Mark Peters

Nice or not:

By the way, an 12 year old boy researched the solarcel and came up with a carbon star like cell (3DCell: read: http://www.katu.com/news/28432984.html ), it has an efficiency of about 90% It uses IRrays...the WOW effect and the solution to our current energy problems. Goverments and industries has to deliver and sell this product quickly to the public biggrin . Personelly I think it will take a long time before we have a benefit for the use it's kind..pitty though.

Now we only have cells that is only for 5 to 17% efficient crying , with a 20 or 30 year lifecycle. Organic cells still yet to come, plastic onces still have a defect after 3-5 years, cheap but still needs plastic and also oil to produce. In many countries it's allowed to have Solar cells (€15.000), earth waterheating (€3500-€5500), Solar boilers (€1500-€2500) and windmills (€?) to produce energy. Some goverments give some benefits back to you, but there is still no stimulant in it do buy them. Still cost a lot of money, but you will be on your own and only use that many power you need, about 3500 kWh /year for each household.

CEP should be able to work in BOINC 6.4.5, although that version has a reputation for suffering from several issues.

However the amount of CEP wu's available is currently very limited, so you might have to wait a while.

BOINC 6.4.5 works fine for all active WCG projects ... I ran it here for a bit. I am currently running 6.6.8 for CUDA processing and it works here too. BOINC 6.6.9 is the current beta version. You might want to check here to see if you are using the most current CUDA driver.

Cheers

Re: Maybe this project needs CUDA

Where can I download the 6.6.8..I only can get the 6.6.9 version. I haven't crunched 1 credit for CEP, didn't recieve anything yet, so just crunch SETI and FightAids now..:)

THX.

Re: Maybe this project needs CUDA

CUDA would be nice if we all had the new Tesla supercomputers.
Only then would we get our wish...
