Did you know that you can set a time before BOINCTasks warns and highlights tasks that are soon to run into deadline expiration. Set the warning in days and hours. Also you can set warnings for too high CPU usage.
----------------------------------------Here and update change log update through version 0.43. 0.43 March 2010 # Changed: Show version number in title bar. # Fixed: Transfer view, sometimes the % exceeded 100%. # Fixed: Project view code 5 = initializing, 7 = in progress. # Fixed: Task view: Sorting is sometimes done on a 3th column even as this column is not selected. Removed hidden sorting columns. Reintroduced the | indicator for now. The computer column may need the | set to disable sorting. # Fixed: Task view: Multicore project tasks displayed a CPU % of more than 100%. Now CPU% = CPU% / CPU cores. Maxed at 100%. # Fixed: Task view: Sometimes with progress below 1% the progress was not shown properly. Now the alternative way is only used when the progress % is below 0.01%. This is only uses in the first phase of GPU Tasks. 0.42 February 2010 # New: A check in the Expert dialog to enable or disable password encryption. (default is off). # Changed: Filter, use the project as well, to separate tasks from SETI and SETI Beta. # Changed: The number of remote computers is now 40, was 20. # Changed: Non cpu intensive projects like FreeHAL that don't set the use value now default to 0.025 C. # Changed: History, moved some memory from main to stack, to fight crashes on some computers with a large (+5000) history. A history above 1000 is not recommended. # Fixed: The sorting on the Use column did not work. 0.41 February 2010 # New: Project view: Show WU in stock per project. # New: A clear button in the logging dialog. # Changed: Gadget window, the default time is now 1 second, but it stays there anyway, as long as the cursor is over the icon. # Fixed: The new CPU % mode did not work properly, in the non combined mode. # Fixed: When a project or projects where suspended, by the project or user, the tasks still showed the running color. # Fixed: Removed the suspended message, when tasks are ready to report. # Fixed: Autostart with, in the Extra menu was not translated. # Fixed: History view: A task sometimes stays in: Updating, please wait. Do a state refresh immediately to resolve the name, because next time the task may be gone. # Fixed: Redraw the icon after an Windows explorer.exe/desktop/file explorer crash. # Fixed: History view: Did not remove history of unconnected computers, in the set time period.

More on BOINCTasks, just finished re-tuning the automated warnings for when jobs are being processed late or not getting a minimum amount of CPU time. To illustrate 3 functions:
----------------------------------------1. Set the deadline warning to less than 8.5 days. My cache is 0.9 days, so if a job has not finished 1.5 days after receipt it will turn red. This way also the repair and beta jobs are highlighted that usually have a 4 days or less deadline. 2. Set the minimum efficiency for full CPU using tasks to 90%. The tasks that was just started up [lowest of the redish highlighted tasks] is whirring around setting up it's model grid had not reached that point yet, so it turned dark pink. Normally though < 90% CPU efficiency for the quad indicates another process is taking time... a streaming video player or a web browser with too many tabs open with active elements, sbybots maybe :? 3. Finally I've set an alert for running tasks that are not using at least 60% of the CPU and not progressing... this one to catch for instance looping tasks or those that somehow lost connection with the core client. Simple, for any on-the-button crunchers, showing all devices and tasks in 1 view. Hoping on future messaging feature or pop up that will alert the volunteer [if s/he so wishes]. TThrottle, that integrates with BOINCTasks already can send mails if things run too hot. ![]()

BOINCview is OUT (the maker too for over 3 years now), BOINCTasks is IN, and it's getting better all the time, the latest addition a column where the last checkpoint time is shown (now a count would be great too, so we know that when Nr 15 is recorded for CEP2, the end is NI)
----------------------------------------Get it here http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/download.html and read the whole changelog from last you saw it :D And still the best is the History column... reported date, state, run and cpu time... now it could use a filter per science function and total run time summaries... for the badge addicts. It already shows total estimated run time cached by project ![]()

For laughs, with "Officious CA Seal of Recommendation", the new feature of checkpoint time since last one could turn a few
----------------------------------------crunchers into nail biters... it certainly turns the color red when it's been long and inopportune to hit that reboot switch, certainly a reason to keep LAIM on :D ![]() edit: corrected image link

I downloaded this a while back but didn't spend much time trying to get it to work (was missing remote_hosts.cfg's) Installed it on local host and the farm today. Works great. ![]() ![]() |

I will let you know if I succeed. |

This guy is awesome... asked him to add checkpoint counting so for instance we know where for instance CEP2 is with X of 16 and less than a week, new version 0.70/0.71 BOINCTasks
----------------------------------------0.70 August 2010 # New: Extra checkpoint options: http://www.efmer.eu/forum_tt/index.php?topic=503.0 # New: Checkpoint counter like [3] 00:00:15, this is the 3th checkpoint. # Changed: Menu->Extra-Allow network connection is now 3 state. Always, Preference or Never. # Changed: Tasks: Don't show the checkpoint when a task is: Ready to report, uploading or in error. # Changed: Tasks: In state, ready to start and suspended, now shows 2 times and the CPU %. # Fixed: The checkpoint tooltip shows some extra characters, that should be hidden. # Fixed: The checkpoint & debt column isn't sorting properly. # Fixed: The checkpoint time is incorrect while paused. # Fixed: Keep the sorting column when drag and drop a column. # Fixed: Projects: The context menu doesn't work, when you move or hide a column. # Fixed: The initial debt column width is close the 0. # Fixed: Tasks: Checkpoint: When the resources are > 1, like 2 Cpu, divide the time by 2. # Fixed: Tasks: Checkpoint: Show the time when a filtered item is only one. 0.71 August 2010 # Fixed: History/Computer/Transfer: Sorting is not working properly. NB: Checkpoint counts is only since the last time the Client&BT were started! Probably then you will also be able to learn how many positions there were in a HCMD2 job, though don't know yet if it counts all checkpoints or only those that were allowed to be written to disk as per the client settings.

This guy is awesome... Indeed! Was it intended that checkpoint highlighting is now at 2 mn instead of 1 hour? I think that the next step will be to make this threshold user adjustable. Coming soon? Probably then you will also be able to learn how many positions there were in a HCMD2 job, though don't know yet if it counts all checkpoints or only those that were allowed to be written to disk as per the client settings. Would be nice but I doubt it can count all checkpoints without communicating directly with the application, which it can certainly not do. |
