Hy,
I have recently upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 32bit to to Ubuntu 8.10 64bit. I did a clean installation without migrating any data. Now I found, the behavior of my Boinc-client (runniung only with world community grid) is odd. It seems like only one processor is supported. After 1st start: Sa 14 Feb 2009 16:45:47 CET||Number of usable CPUs has changed from 2 to 1. Running benchmarks. Now: Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Starting BOINC client version 6.2.14 for x86_64-pc-linux-gnu Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Libraries: libcurl/7.18.2 OpenSSL/0.9.8g zlib/1.2.3.3 libidn/1.8 Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Data directory: /var/lib/boinc-client Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Processor: 2 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ [Family 15 Model 67 Stepping 3] Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt rdtscp lm 3dnowext 3dnow rep_good nopl pni cx16 lahf_lm cmp_legacy svm extapic cr8_legacy Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||OS: Linux: 2.6.27-11-generic Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Memory: 1.96 GB physical, 188.19 MB virtual Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Disk: 12.34 GB total, 8.55 GB free Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Local time is UTC +1 hours Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||No coprocessors Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET|World Community Grid|URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID: 842969; location: home; project prefs: home Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 14-Feb-2009 13:01:13) Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Computer location: home Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||General prefs: using separate prefs for home Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Reading preferences override file Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1004.32MB Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 1506.48MB Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Preferences limit disk usage to 1.86GB Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:31 CET|World Community Grid|Restarting task X0000096651263200802261312_0 using hcc1 version 603 Furthermore (well, might be a new topic) I have noticed, that the workload of my processor (left) is shifting up and down all the time. Before upgrading, workload for both processors were always at its peak. Thank for helping me supporting WCG a better way |

Sa 14 Feb 2009 18:25:30 CET||Reading preferences override file For whatever reason you have local preferences active in your setup. From BoincMgr's advanced view select Advanced->Preferences, then in the Processor Usage tab make sure you have Use at most 100 % of processors Use at most 100 % of processor time. Or press the Clear button in the top-right corner and make sure that your Home profile is set in the same way. Cheers. Jean. |

Hy JmBoullier,
thank you very much for your quick answer. Now it works! I have set both levels to 100%. Sorry for not getting this idea on my own. Once again, thank you for your efforts! |
