[RESOLVED] Quad-Core problem

Hi,

I've been using the World Community Grid Agent for some years now on my old C2D-System. Now I bought a new computer with a PhenomII X4 processor. I installed the WCG Agent from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do , and installed it, then logged in with my account name and password. However, the programm still as only 2 processes running, each at 25% in the taskmanager.
I logged in on the site here, and had a look at the "Device Manager" section, where my computer is listed with his name, and the selected profile "home". In the device profiles options of "home", I changed "On multiprocessors, at most use" from 2 (what it was before) to 4 then, but i still does not compute any more projects than 2 at once (I also tried higher values already, it doesn't change anything, neither when i switch it to 1 only).
Can't find a solution to my problem, I'd really liky to use all 4 cores simultaneously, so I hope you can help me here.

So long,
Anub1s1986

Re: Quad-Core problem

It's a gotcha... the second control setting the % is for client version 6 and above. Try that.

If you are using version 6.2 of the software, then the number of processors used will be the lesser of the two fields below. If you are using a version before 6.2, then only the 'at most' field will be used.
On multiprocessors, at most use: 4 processors
On multiprocessors, use: 100 % of processors

Re: Quad-Core problem

The settings are just like this, "4" in the first field, "100%" in the second field.
Or do I have to use "400%" if I want to use all 4 cores? That wouldn't explain why there are 2 cores in use, though.

Re: Quad-Core problem

Probably your local preferences are overriding. The BOINC startup message log will tell if you have any. Hit the Clear button in Local Preferences, Processor Tab of the BOINC Manager advanced menu.

Re: Quad-Core problem

Amazingly the profile right above the save button states:
Changes to your profile will not take effect until the next time that your grid agent communicates with the servers.

Re: Quad-Core problem

I thought it would communicate and use the options on the server every time the program starts ... apparently not ^^
Nevertheless, resetting the local options helped, now it's using all 4 cores parallely, thx for your help :)

Any scheduled contact such as work fetch and reporting would be accompanied by a check to see if the website device profile also needs to be copied over.

Anyway, can you please edit your opening post title (edit icon next to title) and insert [RESOLVED]. Folk will no know the case is closed.

thanks
