WCG I think (will let someone else confirm) is a separate entity that happens to be funded by IBM. But for some that may be a distinction without a difference. Anyway, you can be rewarded for your contribution with downloading bandwidth from Easynews. If you join their team, they give you a certain amount of bandwidth depending on how much work you do. There's a little more info here. It seems you get 1 gig of bandwidth for every 15 days of cpu time. Yes, in order to receive the "reward" you have to be a current subscriber to the EasyNews Usenet service to begin with. It does provide additional gigs of bandwidth above and beyond your subscription based on your crunching numbers if you are a member of the EasyNews team. I guess the key here is that you have to have a current subscription to take advantage of the "rewarded" downloads ability. Joining the team however is free. ![]() |

There's a little more info here. It seems you get 1 gig of bandwidth for every 15 days of cpu time. that is sthg similar to what I'm suggesting! every user that uses Easynews can get discount in the amount of extra bandwidth for extra 15day of CPU work... what I would very much like to have is the discounts in all of these corporations that are partners with WCG: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewOurPartners.do all of them can give some percentage of discounts, from 5 to 30%... to get the discount, you must donate XY thousand of hours or XY thousand of points (for example 10 000 hours or 100 000 points on WCG)...that means that someone with 2 million points can get 20 discounts in some store! when corporation process the order from the WCG user, it will send WCG some data in which it will say: Mark Walberg 13th order used 15% discount in exchange for 100 000points on 3rd of March 2009. on which day user MW has 2,338,603 points. User MW spent exchanged total amount of 1,400,000 points for the discount, so he has 938,603 points or 9 discounts left! my name is not Mark Walberg, so that is only example. I hope there is no Mark Walberg here, and if there is I hope he's not mad for using his name the system is not full proof, but it can be done! to work properly, all suggestions are welcomed... |

SHHHHHH!!!! Be very quiet about this or Obama will want to tax our donations! ![]() TAX the donations? how? and why? we only calculate, for getting discount in stores...and if you don't produce the money, and no money goes from corp. to the clients/users, then there would be no taxes! and in Croatia, lots of people buy when things are on discounts! doesn't mater what, it might be some **** car, or some thing you use twice a year, but people would buy those things... is Europe so much different from USA? last time I was in NY, it wasn't that much different!**edited for inappropriate language**tkh ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by TKH at Mar 4, 2009 2:13:39 PM] |

Would you like to be sold things just because it's discounted?
----------------------------------------WCG focuses on crunching and sure IBM is getting some PR mileage out of this. Setting up any related programs would be seen in some eyes the wrong way, however well intended. It will be a never ending discussion, but I'm Mr. Opportunist. I buy a product at 30%, pass it to a friend at 10% plus, then order another. Discounting products can have the most awkward consequences... competition with the local IBM vendor would not be seen as taken in kind... and IBM is the only "business" relation, the WCG partners themselves just crunching volunteers, not business associates, and many times just educational institutions.

Which is funny that you bring up Obama. I overheard my TV last night while doing some other stuff and it was on Nightly News. Apparently he has dumped (or will) a whole bunch of money into the health science sector to find a cure for cancer. What a great opportunity to offer WCG to him so the word can get out even more.

OK, only the IBM can give us discounts for buying some servers, PCs or IBM OSs...on which we can put BOINC fro crunching with WCG! and the circle goes round & round & round... ![]() |

and the circle goes round & round & round... No, actually the circle disappears since there are no tangible rewards for crunching. |

and the circle goes round & round & round... No, actually the circle disappears since there are no tangible rewards for crunching. we are still here...and getting no "stimulation" for the crunching! imagine the power that WCG would got, with "stimulating" IBM sales with WCG points? |
