Houston, we have a problem.

Looks like we blew an oxygen tank in the service module,
Over?.....................................................

I know that my top cruncher is knocked almost completely out, but i have been picking up pieces of the data center move for weeks now myself. I'm now on my third team email regarding this, is there anything that you would want me to add?

I have just looked at the same chart for your top cruncher and it seems that his being "almost completely out" accounts for most of the difference you see at team level.

I am not sure I understand what you are expecting from us? Is it some help to explain/solve a particular individual problem? If so give, or better ask him to give us more details on his situation.

Cheers. Jean.

Oh Jean, I know what's wrong with him.

How many did we loose in the data center move?

Alas, poor Roger, we knew his crunching well.

Re: Houston, we have a problem.

Well, a few biggies figured it out just now such as MakeCuresHappen. Other very biggies never skipped a beat. Since the move the grid has grown to break record after record. The way things go we'll be hitting 1700 CPU years or more this week.

Re: Houston, we have a problem.

thinking Perhaps identifying what drew them to WCG in the first place and then reinforce those concepts?

I like to think about the following aspects when *recruiting*
1. Research is for public domain.
2. Wide variety of projects with the return of MD soon and many others (well at least three more according to rumor)
all under one hood (trying to find a way to differentiate WCG multiple project aspect as opposed to just joining many separate projects)
4. We can turn the tide from SETI to local concerns (heck if the aliens want us to know about them they would come knocking, and by local I mean our ENTIRE planet)
5. YOUR AWESOME TEAM !!!
6. If they are credit / point driven ... how about playing up on the vs SETI aspect?
7. If it is straight up crunching then how about pitting WCG flops against the SC top 500? (I think we would currently place 8th?)

angry Re: Houston, we have a problem.

Nice ideas for recruitment, but I'm talking about not loosing valued members of our community to the hands that don’t care if they are lost.

See, Roger isn’t gone, he is stuck.

I'm not mad for me, I'm mad for those stuck. For when they find out that they were left to die, don’t you think you would be somewhat ticked. But since they are dead, they wont be complaining much, problem solved.

Re: Houston, we have a problem.

World Community Grid have already done everything they can.

All members who receive the newsletter from WCG got an email explaining that changes to their firewall may be required.

All partner organisations that had problems should have been contacted by now. I certainly don't know of any still having problems.

And members who didn't get the newsletter or notice there was a problem will get an automatic email letting them know that they are no longer contributing, and suggesting solutions.

All bases covered, I think.

sad Re: Houston, we have a problem.

What prevents sending another email right now. A global one that points out the problem.

But the problem is really they dont always see the email. So any email idea is really not an answer.

How about opening the old IP an let them complete by issuing a fake work unit that leads them here.

Some members are unable to upload a file

____________________________________________
Some members are reporting that they are having troubles uploading a file (the problem starts after we moved to our new hosting home). This is issue is in most cases due to the BOINC client storing the old address (ip address) for World Community Grid. It will eventually update this value although it may take as long as a week. If you want to force BOINC to get the new address right away, then stop the BOINC client and start it up again. You should then be able to upload immediately.

We appreciate your patience during this transition.

My point is not that there was a mistake. We are all human, but maybe that is more the point. What is going to happen is they will eventually return to their machines, wake up and find out they are dead. And have been for a while.

Re: Houston, we have a problem.

courine,

Surely, if your top cruncher(s), haven't seen/responded to both your own team e-mails, the e-mail sent out by WCG or enquired/checked the forum, then surely it's down to the individual to check on a fairly regular basis that his/her machine(s) is continuing to 'crunch'...

Have you some other way (other than e-mail - as that's clearly not working), of getting in contact with this person?, after all, you are their team captain...
