Re: Houston, we have a problem.

However much it hurts to loose any member, I think too that the processes in place ensures the missing in action volunteers do get alerted if not returning. At my team, top 15 daily, no MIA's have been recorded.

Meantime Records are like life (one Andy Pratt). Heading for a Thursday stripping and still en route to break the 1700 CPU years "technical resistance point" as they would call this in the currency market. The update... grid wide average run time per job still dropping, credits per hour still rising, going for the 275 TFlop daily grid thrust. Aiming for the 250,000,000 results milestone around 12 March or before.

Re: Houston, we have a problem.

Skerob ... thank you for the fine charts you present for everyone at WCG, I for one really appreciate the work you do with them. I have 1 minor suggestion... can you format the number in the lower right of the chart you posted above to be something other than scientific notation?

Thanks again,
Steve

Re: Houston, we have a problem.

And members who didn't get the newsletter or notice there was a problem will get an automatic email letting them know that they are no longer contributing, and suggesting solutions.

Regarding Roger one problem is that he is contributing much less than normally but he is still contributing. So he will probably not receive this email, and if courine has no personal way to contact him...???

Cheers. Jean.

sad Re: Houston, we have a problem.

Oh, i have 2 team emails and 2 personal emails to Roger. But if it was just Roger, I wouldn't be writing this post. But the problem is not just Roger.

Why has the timout mentioned, happend? Is there any way for them to be recovered without email or forum intervention?

Re: Houston, we have a problem.

Hi, courine.

World Community Grid have already done everything reasonable (and more) to avoid losing members due to the transition.

But I think possibly you are exaggerating the problem. As Sekerob shows, we have never been doing so well as we are now. If we lost anyone, it's hard to tell. So, beyond Roger, can you find any other members who we lost?

Members come and go. That's normal. Clearly there was no major exodus. Still, if you can find any specific people we should be contacting - that can only help.

Re: Houston, we have a problem.

3 of the 4 systems I run had to be unstuck. I show 5 systems still stuck in my lower ranks. I'm not sure how many Cargod had to fix. He has about 40 machines.

No, this isnt a case of bad PMS. I can point to team after team as I travel down the top 500. Oh, and if you think I'm just trying to be nasty, ah think about it. Looks can be decieving.

Missing the leather boots u used to show in the sig image cool

It's if I go to look for something I can find it no doubt. Think the SSL issue had a greater impact than the IP switching, but if some have hard coded the old IP's in tables somewhere, it becomes rather difficult. Eventually company security walls are harder to take, particularly if policies allow client installations but no authority to influence the firewall etc. I'm reasonably sure some collateral damage was incurred there... strictest private thoughts of course.

Re: Houston, we have a problem.

This has nothing to do with the firewall settings. Next?

Re: Houston, we have a problem.

This has everything to do with firewalls. Computers that simply needed a reboot are going to have been fixed by now.

Courine, I'm afraid I can't see where you are going with this thread. What do you want World Community Grid to do that they aren't doing already? As we have repeatedly said, members who have suddenly stopped contributing are already getting individual emails letting them know.

What more can we do? And no, World Community Grid will not be sending out a blanket email telling members who don't want emails about a problem they don't have. So that option is off the table.

When? For it may be the only option.

The problems faced are far more than the firewall issue. I see 4 issues. 2 were adressed and some may have been spuratic. But the gavity of this matter has much more than its more obvious problems. Even Sek's graphs points out the problem I see in a global way.

If you cant see where this thread is going, well it seems there is much you dont see. My problem in this is are you glossing over the loss and does everyone know why?

What gets me though, is the complete lack of awareness by all. You guys seem to have a clue yet not see the gravity. Am I the only tiger here who would actually care?

sad Seems so. sad
