Re: Still producing errors

Yes, Bearcat, you have it exactly right. If members reported every single error or invalid result, there would be no point - it would be a meaningless repetition of the data that the techs already have.

That said, there are a number of reasons why you might still want to report a result:

1. If you have questions.
2. If you see a new error that you are sure hasn't been discussed before.
3. If you see a pattern of failures that looks like it might need emergency action by the techs.
4. If we ask for further examples of a particular failure.

I'm pulling this machine off CEP work completely for now. If the same errors happen on HCC (which I'm comfortable is rock solid) I'll be sieving through system processes to see what I can find that might be interfering with BOINC.

Re: Still producing errors

Could you keep us informed about your findings regarding the possible correlation between the client version and the number of errors?

Yep, I'll keep you informed.
I was running 5.4.11 on Debian Etch and most of my machines are upgraded now to Lenny that contains version 6.2.14.
More useful info after the weekend I think.

My findings after running almost a week the BOINC 6.2.14 client on Lenny (20 upgraded, 6 not) :
The number of errors decreased from around 11 to 15 per day to 1 to 6 per day. The errors currently generated are mainly coming from the machines that are not upgraded yet. The new BOINC client does hardly generate an error anymore on CEP.
So, my conclusion:
If you have a client version 5.x, (try to) upgrade to 6.2.x.
For Debian, simply do a distro-upgrade to Lenny (is released now) and you get the 6.2.14 for free. :-)

Re: Still producing errors

Thank you very much for your feedback.

As of now, my 5.10.45 client returned no more errors apart from the two I already mentioned earlier in this thread. Four WUs completed successfully, another four are waiting for validation.

I'll rather not upgrade my current Ubuntu 8.04 (because of its long term support), neither the BOINC client within it, but maybe I'll install Lenny within a virtual machine and run the 6.2.14 client then ...

You made me curious about it ;-)

Best,
Robert

As far as I know, Ubuntu is based on Debian, but I don't which base is used for which version of Ubuntu.

Re: Still producing errors

I got this exit code 29 on one of my CEP WU's last night. Running BOINC 6.2.28 on VISTA 32-bit laptop. The WU ran for almost an hour which is short for my machine. They usually take 5-6 hours.
