Hello pcwr,
----------------------------------------Does this error resulting processing time count towards my total? I have looked for an official statement. I have not found one. As far as I know, Valid results are awarded full credit. Invalid results get half credit. Errors get no credit. But time for badges is only awarded for Valid results. Since I could not find an official statement about badge time, I may be wrong. But I think that errors do not count. Lawrence Added: Thanks, Sekerob. So Valid and Invalid results both count toward badge time. Error does not. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 12, 2009 5:53:59 PM] |

Lawrence, time for "invalid" results is counted in full towards badge and general statistics, unless something changed whilst i had a kip. Outright "error" don't count for anything but frustration.

Thanks.
---------------------------------------- If it happens again, I'll use my processing time on the other projects then. Don't want to waste 24+hrs of processing time for nothing. Patrick ![]() |

pcwr,
----------------------------------------your "No heartbeat" error is not a CEP specific error. Something happened that prevented your core client to not communicate with th science for longer than 30 seconds. That results in BOINC killing the process. I had one yesterday and i know it was due some remote accessing. Vista can at times just sit there doing nothing in some internal loop. Anyway, read today that Windows 7 is going to be given as a free upgrade to Genuine Vista users, whatever that means. Translated where i am they'll want 199 Euro's. I do note 5.10.28 client? Recommend 5.10.45 whatever OS you are or 6.2.xx latest stable (6.2.28 if on Windows). The comms part of that client is better.

For all the problems I have had with this project, I have just opted out of the project until they can get the problems fixed. I think if more people do that, they would take these errors more seriously, than my perception of their concern. My cpu(s) which I am donating to projects on WCG are just better spent on projects that don;t have so many errors. I need to be a good steward of what resources I have...doesn't everyone? --El |

Just got copy 2 of a WU, after one of the initial copies errored out:
E000391_ 669A_ 002b1h00p_ 2-- In Progress 09-02-13 15:33:31 09-02-17 14:35:55 0.00 0.0 / 0.0 E000391_ 669A_ 002b1h00p_ 0-- Error 09-02-12 01:27:23 09-02-13 15:32:56 15.37 203.9 / 0.0 E000391_ 669A_ 002b1h00p_ 1-- In Progress 09-02-12 01:25:23 09-02-24 01:25:23 0.00 0.0 / 0.0 As it seems quite probable that the other copies will error out as well, I consider two options: a) abort my copy, b) suspend my copy and wait for the second initial copy to complete. Then, if the second copy errors out I could still abort mine, otherwise I could resume it. But the second initial copy might not complete within my copy's deadline ... Wouldn't it be better if an additional copy were not send out immediately after the first one errors out, but only after a non-error completion of the second initial copy? So there would be only two frustrated users instead of six or seven ... Just an idea. |

Which version of the boinc-client are you running?
I must say that the number of errors are decreased since I've upgraded some of my clients in the past two days. But... the next couple of days will point out if my first observation is correct... |

My client version is 5.10.45, running on 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04.
Could you keep us informed about your findings regarding the possible correlation between the client version and the number of errors? Thanks, Robert |
