Re: Still producing errors

Both spmazzola and wplachy have tasks that were created on 1/23/09 which are more recent than the older errors, even though the errors appear to be the same. wplachy also has one created on 1/25/09. The difference is that they ran longer too. So it looks like these three need a separate investigation. Can't say about the rest.

Re: Still producing errors

Just had same error as OP -- this is all very annoying. Why isn't this project properly beta-tested. Isn't that what beta testing i for - so user can opt out of untested projects?

Re: Still producing errors

It is unreasonable to expect testing to uncover every problem.

Re: Still producing errors

Hi abulaafia!
There have been a few thousands of beta WUs for this project, and 312,867 WUs of real work returned for a total of 511 years of runtime (as of last stats) and, yes, there are still a few annoying problems.
Which size would you recommend for the beta test you are thinking of? smile

Opting out is offered to any member for avoiding any project for any reason. No staff member or CA will ever say anything against your decision to opt out from whatever project you don't want to see in your machines. I would not say that everything is perfect (nothing is, indeed) but a great flexibility is offered here, no?

Thank you for crunching with us. Jean.

Re: Still producing errors

Yes ... tremendous flexibility to choose across multiple projects whose primary focus is to help people with research dedicated to the public domain. Crunching is just one piece of the big picture and I am honored to be allowed to participate.

Is there any value in these *error* threads? I mean is there really anything we are posting that the techs and scientists don't have available to them? I would imagine that they have error rate thresholds, that once exceeded, would alert them to start an investigate. So I guess my real question would be ...

Instead of waiting until a CAs, tech, etc (thank you all for your time) posts with "more detail please" or "don't worry, be happy" is there any way for us ordinary crunchers to know, or at least have a better feel for, when it is worthwhile to post regarding errors?
