Increase the ram to reduce the PF's. The memory is very pricey. Just so someone doesn't go down the wrong path on this ... The page faults (PFs) seen when CEP runs are "soft faults" that do not cause physical paging. Adding more RAM will not help. The application needs to be changed to reduce the page faults, which will improve both application and system performance. I'm sure the techs and project scientists are working on this. As has been said elsewhere, it is best to avoid running too many CEP WUs concurrently. Windows system overhead increases dramatically when there are high PF rates on multiple processors. - D |

Far as i am aware, the new i7 is simply a 4 core processor, only difference is that it has HT support replicates 1 core as 2, just like the P4HT.
So replicating 4 cores will show as 8. But essentially halves the core process between these 2 virtual cores. What this means is that programs will operate quicker, but you essentially have the same processing power as a quad core. So BOINC, which requires processing power isnt going to process much faster (if any) than a quad core. Using Vista isn't going to help as it has severe bandwidth errors with both hdd's and networking. Windows 7 will overcome this, it seems to run really really smooth but with the features of vista, the sidebar is gone also, so you can put your gadgets wherever you want. I am currently running Windows XP64 which gives me the hardware support of Vista, without the problems. |

Also remember that the I7's are 45nm cpu's like the yorkfields and very effective in the work they do. I also run XP 64 on this system as just like cockroaches I don't allow Vista into my house. ![]() |
