Hi All, been searching the forum and website for ages but can't find an answer so don't go shooting me down now!
Does a machine have to have a permanent internet connection for the software to work? I appreciate of course you need a connection to download the work items but once that is at the local machine does the connection still have to be active? In my simple mind once the computation to be done is on the local machine it could crunch away until finished and then need an active connection to send the results back and get the next piece of work - you with me? Reason for asking is I potentially have another machine I can use but it is not internet connected - I could connect it briefly, get it to do the work and then connect once the job is complete. Cheers, Mark. |

It works with dialup, so it will work in the scenario you describe.
You may want to set your work buffer a little larger than usual. |

I'll investigate, thanks. The machine doesnt do anything else so happy for it to crunch full time.

I do this with my work computer. I only have one internet drop so I switch between my desktop and laptop. If I leave the desktop plugged in to the internet all night, in the morning I switch to the laptop and manually retry the uploads in the Transfers tab. Then I hit update and it refills the queue and reports all the finished work.
On those machines I usually set the profile to buffer about an extra day or two worth of work so if I forget or *cough cough* take a sick day it won't run out of work ![]() |

Thanks guys, the other machine seems to be doing work while not connected so I'm happy. It doesn't get used much but I thought it'd be good to have it doing something useful when it was running.
Thanks again. |
