So far this WU has been sent to six other as well as me. I sent a finished WU, most of the other errored.......

10 replications, no one stayed more than 11 sec  So we are not wasting much time. At least we are acquiring a big list of problem work units for the project scientists to look at when they come back from Christmas vacation.Lawrence |

someone got too late after 36 hours of computing and lost 540 claimed points

That's why I aborted all of my WUs and will wait until the bugs are fixed. I lost hundreds of points because most if the WUs were 36 hours and when completed, I got errors then it was too late to submit. This project is worth crunching for but until the bugs are fixed, I'll pass.

It is a main reason why I'm asking to WCG review your rules and criterias to ditribute points and account results for crunchers. In my opinion any work done and finished as error (when 100% completed) and invalid results, need be valored in equal basis of valid results. The effort to discover the result situation was the same in most of cases (in errors or problematics work units that finished as erros or invalid manytime the effort is bigger than) We can't select the right works to crunch from WCG, on the contrary, and in this way we don't be misincentivated in returned this errors or invalids results, once we just contributed with our time spent and effort to crunch. So, I wonder if WCG could review this rules and criterias, and update it for one more estimulated. I saw it happens with some distinct criterias to distribute points, in some Beta tests results. Why not extend it for all projects results ?

GIBA, For an "old" project running steadily for months error and invalid WUs are normally produced by machines with problems (e.g. HW, SW) that need to be fixed by their owners, and crediting rules have been made to motivate these owners to do what they have to do. For a new project with teething problems WCG techs are usually adapting the rules behind the scene to make sure that participants are not penalized for problems which are not their fact, until the new project is finally running steadily. These manual corrections may take time but they usually happen. Cheers. Jean. |
