Re: BOINC clients stopped reporting!

Maybe you have not enough RAM and disk space? No, I am joking... smile

Seriously now, until you have solved this not-running problem you should clear your local preferences to eliminate one common possible cause of such problems.

From the advanced view select Advanced->Preferences and click Clear at the top right corner.

The other problems (not downloading and not reporting work) are a consequence of Boinc not crunching (therefore it does not need to fetch more work, and thus it does not report completed tasks).

Cheers. Jean.

Re: BOINC clients stopped reporting!

OK, I turned off Local Preferences the way you said to.

It seems to me nothing is happening because of the "Communication deferred" message on the Projects tab, but I am sure no expert. It's got about 21.5 hours to go

Is there a way to override this, or should I just waitnow and see what happens tomorrow?

Re: BOINC clients stopped reporting!

I believe if ""Computation is suspended" also the network is suspend and it starting a counter to try again later. Have a look in the Activity menu what it says there (Run Always, Run based on prefs, Suspend")

Re: BOINC clients stopped reporting!

I set it to "Run always" and "Network activity always available", and the Communication deferred counter is still working down and no change, no new messages.

On the other PC having the same problem just for a lark I detahced from the project, then tried to reattach. I got the list of all the projects to select in addition to WCG, I picked WCG and I got the "project is temporarily unavailable" message again! I tried attaching to three other projects and got the same message, so it must be a client problem.

Arrggghhh...

Re: BOINC clients stopped reporting!

On the 1 good client left with the Communication deferred issue, I selected "Do network communications", and now it is back to the Communication Deferred status starting at 24 hours again!!! The only new message is "Fetching scheduler list"

Re: BOINC clients stopped reporting!

Have you visited the BOINC Manager Project tab, selected WCG and hit the Update button in left margin? Also in the Advanced menu there is a ""Do Network Communication"" or similar.

Detaching from a project looses all work in progress or completed!

Have you visited the BOINC Manager Project tab, selected WCG and hit the Update button in left margin? Yes I did that before I detached. NOthing changed

Also in the Advanced menu there is a ""Do Network Communication"" or similar.--> Yes - see post immediately above. That just reset the deferred message

Detaching from a project looses all work in progress or completed - I don;'t think I have any work that has not been uploaded.

Re: BOINC clients stopped reporting!

So to review current status, I have one PC that will not download work, "Communication Deferred", counting down from 18 hours. I guess we'll see in 18 hours if it restarts.

The second PC cannot connect to WCG or any other project. I uninstall ver 6, reinstalled ver 5, same thing. I uninstalled ver 5, reinstalled ver 6 after wiping directories and all Registry entries, same thing.

I am out of ideas. Seems like ver 6 really hosed things up, but I have no idea. Any ideas?

Re: BOINC clients stopped reporting!

Selecting WCG in the project tab and hitting Update resets the counter and tries to open a comms line, if it was previously determined as suspended.

Often when the device has hit the daily quota [due bad work] will it get a deferral bump from the server to the next day. The messages in the stdoutdae.txt file should tell if this occurred.
