Hi all,
I have been happily reporting results on 5 PCs for quite a while. I noticed all of a sudden over the last 3 days two of the PCs stopped reporting. I rebooted, and it stayed the same - status of all tasks was "Uploading". My Internet connection was fine! I went to the Transfers tab, and a bunch of entries were in there. I highlighted all, and said Retry now - they all uploaded. Now things are stuck on "Ready to Report". Will that clear up on its own or do I still have a problem? And why did they get stuck in "Uploading", I have never seen that before? Thanks! |

Now I have done it - I saw that there was a new client, I went to 6.2.28 from something 5.10, and now I have no project! I just use WCG. I went to Tools/Attach to Project, added http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org, and it says "The project is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
I am hosed. Help! thanks! |

It should clear on its own.
When results fail to upload, BOINC waits before trying again. There was a network issue recently that may have caused the failure, or it could have been a temporary problem at your end. Either way, clicking "Retry now" forced an immediate attempt. Looks like it worked. |

You picked the wrong time.... bad luck. Wait a bit and try again. It really should be temporary.
Sorry for the inconvenience. Note: normally, an upgrade shouldn't detach you from the project. You shouldn't even lose the work in progress. I'm curious to know what went wrong. What operating system do you use, and what folder did you install BOINC to? |

Hello awalt,
Ready to Report is explained in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=16783 It means that you have4 successfully returned the results and within 24 hours will report this to the scheduler. The server will then undertake a lengthy database update. BOINC Manager holds off sending back the report in hopes that several reports can be combined into one, reducing the load on the database server. So don't worry about Ready to Report. Just ignore it. I tried again this morning (about 10 hours later), and I still cannot attach to project at www.worldcommunitygrid.org on either machine. I still get temporarily unavailable, try again later. One machine is Windows Server 2008 x64 dual-CPU 4-Quad, the other is Vista x32 dual CPU 2-cores. I installed to D:\BOINC, and data to D:\BOINC\PROJECTS on both machines. |

I installed to D:\BOINC, and data to D:\BOINC\PROJECTS on both machines. Hello awalt, From http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php - How to install BOINC as a service (BOINC 6 series) on Windows? : !!!! At all times keep the directories separate. When you try to install BOINC in one directory (say C:\BOINC) and run the Data directory as a subdirectory of the BOINC directory (say C:\BOINC\Data\), things will go haywire once you run BOINC. So just don't do it. !!!! Perhaps this is causing your problem ?? Cheers |

Theory, not tried: BOINC 6 does not allow installation of the data-dir in the same path as the client location, but awalt's, if 6, suggests it's possible. Designed for Vista specifically to place outside the "program files" structure to overcome security issues. Good practice anyway. Data does not belong there.

Thanks for the update - I am pretty sure I combined the data and client folder in version 5. Anyway, I uninstalled, reinstalled version 6, with folders D:\BOINC and D:\BOINCData, and I attached to WCG fine.
Now all the projects are listed with status "Ready to report", and when minimized in the system tray the yellow bubble says "Computation is suspended". Under project tab, status is "Communications is deferred 23:52:14 and counting down. Is this normal? I read the Ready to Report FAQ but I got confused on whether it should be getting new work and starting - both machines are not doing anything (computing suspended). |

Hi awalt,
Ignore 'Ready to Report'. That means you have sent back the results. Instead, worry about why you are not downloading and running work units. Try rebooting, then post Messages so we can see what BOINC Manager says. Lawrence |
