Did you just install it? BOINC takes a little time to download enough work to run all cores at once.

Hello
I have same bug .. I upgraded Boinc from .45 to new 6.2.28 I didn't change the work profile, but before I had to work units running one on each core, now i have only one work unit the profile still have "use 2 CPU" and "use 100% of CPU availiable" and I have 4 work units waiting in line .... is this a know bug ? is somebody found a workaround ? thanks |

If you're using Windows, check if Windows can actually see all its processors.
----------------------------------------1. In Task Manager, do you see one or two CPU usage graphs? 2. If you see only one graph, click on View --> CPU History --> One graph per CPU. 3. If it still shows only one graph, close Task Manager and open Control Panel --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager. 4. Check that the value for Computer is something like "ACPI Multiprocessor PC". 5. If it says Uniprocessor, try selecting "multiprocessor"; if the option doesn't exist then try right-clicking and selecting "Scan for Hardware Changes" and go on from there. [I've done this only on W2K Pro machines and am now running XP Pro, so things may be a bit different and you may have to experiment a bit] ![]() |

I'll see if I can formulate an FAQ for it is generally simple [and having a stupid cause, from the software developers side]
----------------------------------------BOINC version 6.2.28 or 6.2.19, though the logic for the WCG pack is slightly different, always taking the lowest value, rounded down to the nearest whole processor core, meaning 99% is 50% on a dual core, speak 1. 1. Go to BOINC Manager > Advanced view > Advanced menu > local preferences > processor usage tab and set the "On Multi Processor systems, use at most 100% of the processors". if that does not work 2. Hit the clear button in the local prefs and check message log if anything changes. if that does not work 3. Visit My Grid > Device manager and open the device profile attached to your client (usually default). The profile attached to a device is named in the client start up message log and can be default, home, school, work. 4. Hit custom button 5. Find the processor section and set the processor number to the value you want it to be and the % field below to 100%, not 99 or anything lower! 6. Go back to BOINC manager, open the Projects tab, select WCG and hit the update button. That will copy the web prefs to the client. Check in BM message log See FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=17033

I've tried using all of your suggestions, but my machine will only pull 1 task now, despite having 2 recognized processors.

I am using boinc-client from Debian Linux 'unstable'. Thanks for any suggestions. -l |

Wed 05 Aug 2009 05:56:29 PM CDT||Processor: 2 AuthenticAMD AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 244 [Family 15 Model 5 Stepping 8] This information is simply text copied from the processor and shows what the manufacturer has put there. It could say "Thank you for having chosen this processor" with the same effect. To really know how many processors Boinc is authorized to use after processing preferences you should look at the latest benchmark in your message log. If it is older than your current session, force a new one (Advanced view, Advanced->Run CPU benchmark) and look at your message log. If Boinc says "Number of CPUs: 1" there is something wrong in your preferences, if it says "Number of CPUs: 4" it is OK and we have a problem with work requesting. In both cases copy/paste the message log for the start of your session in your next post to let us know the information we need for helping you. Read you later. Jean. |

Have you got more in your Task buffer waiting to run / ready to start? Was your most recent work valid and did you check on the Result Status page?
----------------------------------------Can you please post the whole start up log of BOINC.

I have no tasks waiting to run. It won't download more than one, even if I refresh the project or just hit the Update button.
Please note that I have LHC @ Home disabled. I haven't gotten any jobs for it in ages so I turned it off. Everything is good on the Result Status page for this host. My other hosts -- two other dual machines, a Windows and an Ubuntu box -- are both working fine as well.
