I recently switched from WCG to another project for a multitude of reasons. I set the WCG project to "Won't get new tasks" , then reset WCG to remove all unwanted tasks. Now with any other project that would be all I need to do to stop getting task from that project... Not so with WCG... Even though WCG is still set to "Won't get new tasks" and BOINC does not ask WCG for new tasks, WCG takes upon itself to continue to periodically send new work, supposedly under the guise of replacing missing work... I must tell you I find this irksome habit extremely annoying... This has occurred on all 16 of my quad processor machines. Frankly I'm getting a little weary of running around resetting it every couple hours when I find more WCG task running... Yes, I know I could just detach from WCG altogether, but that wasn't my intention... I merely wanted to do something else for a change (I'm just kinda kinky that way) and in all likelihood "would" have came back to WCG eventually... That's not near as likely now... I'm forced by boincstats to have all projects I have run on at least one machine to maintain a complete listing of all projects in stats.
Btw, Yes I know the intent of BOINC was to be able to run a multitude of sharted projects, but I choose not to do that... I like all my eggs in one basket... (remember my kinkiness) ![]() |

hmmm BoincStats....Using BAM maybe? Are you using 5.10.45 or some other version? Anyway, WCG is not BAM enabled so odd troubles have been observed... I've seen projects being added and removed just because I did not fully comprehended the BAM mechanics. Think you can tell BAM which devices get what projects. Assign WCG to 1 of the 4 possible profiles and associate that one only to WCG. Use the other 3 to manage the rest.

Evidently you didn't abort this work. The "Won't get new tasks" option is only on the client - the server knows nothing about it.
Don't reset the project! Abort all the tasks in progress. I think your problem is caused solely by resetting the project instead of aborting work you don't want to complete. |

May I suggest you READ my post throughly before answeing?... Look at the little picture I posted... BOINC did NOT ask for new tasks... ![]() |

Yes, I noticed that.
What is your problem? I explained a) what happened, b) your misunderstanding, and c) what you need to do to fix it. Both BOINC and WCG are working exactly as designed. Abort, don't reset. |

I'm not "misunderstanding" anything. So tell me ********why is it that none of the other projects have this annoying habit... *******. You suggested I do a few hours of unecessary work just to cover up a failing of WCG to understand the term "requesting 0 seconds of work" or are you telling me WCG disregards everything sent to it? Perhaps the work as well?

Resending lost work is a feature of BOINC. Not all projects take advantage of it. World Community Grid does.
I already explained that you need to abort the work, and that resetting the project does not achieve this. Your hostile tone is not helpful. You have your answer. |

I'm no expert but its your problem and your cause of the problem. If you had simply requested No More Work, the current pool of jobs would have been completed and you could have then moved on. As explained, reset does not perform the task you think it does. Now you know. Your distress was caused by a lack of patience in not letting the tasks complete, since you are unable or unwilling to abort them all. Don't try to export your misdirected anger.
