So Dave, our resident CA, when is the points conversion at WCG going to happen? October is almost gone ... although they did not specify which October as usual. Yet another "back burner" project?
----------------------------------------On November 16 (my 4-year anniversary here) I will pull my resources from WCG and move on to other promising things. They are so far behind the curve. 21 more days. ![]() ![]() |

Did a quick check and didn't see anything indicating that it would be happening soon, but I could easily have missed it. Something else might be of interest to you. They are looking at GPU processing. If they decide to go that way, I am sure it will be a while before we might see it, though. I am sure that their resources are pretty slim and a lot of their work goes towards bringing on more projects for us to crunch. I think it has to be that way. Giving us ways to measure our contributions are nice, but the real reason for the grid is the processing for the projects, and we certainly have seen a lot of work done for some very good humanitarian projects. Hey folks.
The (only) dual core machine has died, again, I think its a faulty power supply thats killing the motherboards. I'll be replacing them both in about two weeks when I have time after my university assignments and just before the exams. Until then, I have a mere P4 crunching.. ![]() I'm also getting a new supermachine in a little over a month.. Haven't finalized the specs but I'll likely hop on the graphics crunching bandwagon also with a 9800. ![]() In case I don't speak again soon, happy Halloween everyone! Marc. |

Dave, Keith: I will be happy to help. Barring unforeseen circumstances, I will be near my computer between now and Christmas (probably even then). If you can give me the proper instruction, I should be able to pick it up for you in your absence. Send me the instructions before you go so I can make a practice run on them if you want. Dave, if you want to do it, that is fine with me...I will serve as a backup. Whatever you guys want. Regards RT -- thanks. It is probably better to have you scheduled to do it with me backup the way my health has been lately. Besides, it spreads the wealth around a bit. I did it a year ago for Keith, Jonathan just recently did it. It is pretty simple. You just go to the our team page here on WCG, under the heading "Team Member Details and Statistics" you click on Sorted By "Points Generated". When you get to the list, expand it out to 250 records per page and finally, copy/paste all of the data lines from each page into a flat file (Notepad page) and save it. If you really work at it, you can make the effort take a whole five minutes. Actually, it's even easier than that. I use this URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTe...amp;numRecordsPerPage=350 That gets the entire team on one page so all you have to do then is select the part that list the details for each member (from Marysduby down to Jayan Thettath), copy and paste that into Notepad. Save it as a text file. If you go ahead and send to me then, keep a copy until I'm back and confirm with you that I have all the files. With the spam like it is these days, it doesn't take long for my inbox to fill when I'm gone. Hum.. I just tried that URL and it gave me all members. Not just the active ones. Is there another parm that will get just the active? Otherwise how do you eliminate the inactive from the list that you post? Looking at it some more, you have points this period.. so do you import this into an excel do the math and then sort out ...etc. etc. ? ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Oct 27, 2008 2:40:18 PM] |

As long as folks are talking about their place on the planet, I would add that we have lots of wildlife including Deer, Turkey, Opossum, Raccoons, and the occasional Bobcat among other things..including tons of birds. The Cardinal is the most common bird..brilliant red. Here is a pointer to a satellite picture of my place. It is the house in the lower right of the photo. This is a winter (Uglist time of year here) picture and is about 6-7 years old. It is better looking now.

According to DM, the 8800gt is more efficient and cost effective for crunching. You might think about that if you're only getting it for crunching. But if you want to game also, then 9800GT is an awesome choice. |

RT -- Keith has written some code to digest the data into the stats he posts for us, so, yeah, he needs the data from all members as you noted. |
