Please post a copy of the line out of your message log which can be retraced from the stdoutdae.txt file in the BOINC Data Directory.
----------------------------------------The line to look for would be similar to: 13/03/2008 23:12:20||A new version of BOINC (5.10.45) is available for your computer. [Added: Please also tell the client version this message was received on. e.g. 6.2.16 is advised as available and you're running 5.10.45] Many thanks

I used search (Windows Explorer) to search for both "new version" and "available" in any file named stdoutdae (so stdoutdae.old was also searched) in my BOINC directory. Nothing found. I am running the WCG download of BOINC 5.10.45 on Windows XP.

Lawrence,
----------------------------------------Unfortunately, if you had many entries, it would have been pushed out since the default file restriction is 2Mb. This one should have appeared around July 31 or after. I had one to tell me about 6.2.17 when just having installed 6.2.16, which estranged me. The quad is on 6.2.18 but generates too many lines and clears about every 3-4 days. I just want to correllate the automated advises to a change-log summary I made: 6.2.14, July 16 with an "imminent" announcement July 24, Berkeley front page 30 July, 6.2.15, August 2 (3 days it took to get 6.2.14 withdrawn) 6.2.16, August 6 (presidential hopeful) 6.2.17, August 14, 6.2.18, August 17 and having more bug reports.

Perfect DM, the change log announcement was after the launch, and the client notification immediate. The definition of what a 'build' constitutes is blurring.
----------------------------------------I forgot one important question in my OP and will add it in: What client version were you running on host this was received on? thanks

I forgot one important question in my OP and will add it in: What client version were you running on host this was received on? thanks 6.2.14 (XP SP3 on that one and had it on Vista too) I've been running 6.2.18 on all 10 machines since then without any noticable problems. ![]() ![]() |

...so does this mean that WCG is recommendidng 6.2.18? Well, my reply to Lawrence said ".... more bugs" No Scribe, the techs have only just begun reviewing the code. Originally it was hoped for mid July, shortly after the UD expel. The HPF2 beta that was as last to be readied for BOINC 6 has not converted yet to a production release (I had a serious screensaver bombing graphics issue), that suggests there is a wee bit more work. So, did you get a notification via the client and what version was this for and in? I'm not in a rush at all. That said, the only bad production jobs I had with any 6.2 release was RICE and that issue went away around 6.2.12
