So why is WCG then sending the message out to members if they do not recommend it it?

...and an excuse that it is not WCG sending but BOINC itself is not valid as far as I am concerned. My machines only run WCG therefore I consider everything in the message file as WCG and if WCG is not recommending then it should not appear on my machine....

It is planned to be taken care of so say the notes. It's something in the standard code with a plan for the WCG kit to have an additional default config control to stop them 'calling Berkeley'. The wanting is: "calling WCG". But please would you report you info which was the purpose of this poll thread. thanks

Scribe,
The BOINC agent polls the BOINC servers to determine if they should display that message. Thus that message originates from BOINC. As we are looking at the 6.2 client, we are also looking at things such as that message. We are likely to modify the BOINC software (by allowing us or anyone else to specify the URL used to check for a more recent version in the cc_config.xml file). This will allow us greater control for informing our users when we are 'recommending' an upgrade vs when BOINC has simply released a new build. Kevin |

D.,
----------------------------------------boils down to: If there happened to be brand new release right when the client did it's fortnightly, you'd be running 6.2.14.0 .... the state of the axles a different story. Standard test is to take a fore hammer and hit the wheels and listen to the sort of sound it makes. ;>) Now, why are threads always going in 15 different directions, when the cul-de-sac has only a "reverse". ![]()

Brilliant, you already have a 'specialised' version of Boinc so this would make sense ![]() |

I remember seeing a couple computers of mine with messages in red stating that 6.2.18 was available, but can't seem to replicate it at the moment.

So that was a Windows-only party here till now!...
---------------------------------------- All devices still under 5.10.45. Two Windows XP devices: - at 23:10:07 UTC on 2008/08/20: 6.2.18 available - at 09:36:10 UTC on 2008/08/21: 6.2.18 available One Ubuntu 64 device: - at 18:44:27 UTC on 2008/08/14: 6.2.15 available For what it's worth, in the corresponding get_version file (still current in this device until Aug 28) the latest versions were 5.10.45 for Windows and 6.2.15 for Linux and Mac.
