i'll try the things you guys suggested.. it's not that much computing power.. but it's something, right? Mike.. ![]() Actually, depending on the processing power of the unit, it might be more expensive to run than its worth. That is certainly true of desktop P4s, but laptop p4s might be more energy efficient. What is the ghz rating of the machine? not really sure.. i'm at work.. right now it's ghz is 0.. it's old, so most likely I think it's a really old p3.. i'm just wishfully thinking that I could add more computing power.. sigh.. Dr. Mike.. How much longer before you finish your residency? Are you trying to get on staff at a hospital or joining a private practice? |

Dr. Mike.. How much longer before you finish your residency? Are you trying to get on staff at a hospital or joining a private practice? Mike, I'm afraid it might be time to pull that laptop off its life support. Apparently that's legal under the Oregon Death With Dignity Act (I did a lot of research into biomedical ethics last year). At this point, it's probably not justifying the electricity cost for the crunching power. But don't worry, you can buy a replacement machine for dirt cheap these days. Scope out www.portatech.com where you can build a powerful quad core crunching machine for $640 assembled. Better still, add a few hundred extra dollars, and you can turn that cruncher into a sweet gaming/multimedia rig for under $800 easy. If you're addicted to laptops, www.tigerdirect.com spams me with a million ads a week for cheap, fast laptops. |

I'm trying to obtain a fellowship in Forensic Pediatrics (the "sexy" name for Child Abuse Pediatrics). It would be 3 more years of specialized training in sexual abuse, assault, neglect, and some on failure to thrive. There's other things, but most are in the above groupings.. It's interesting work. Some in hospitals, some in clinics, and there's going to court and testifying. It's all about the kids Dr. Mike.. P.S. I finish in the middle of January... ![]() |

Jonathon,
----------------------------------------I used to love Bioethics.. still do, but Child Abuse is more of my "passion". I do have to ask, because i'm socially inept in some areas, but what is a "humanist" chaplain? Dr. Mike ![]() |

I had no idea you could crunch with your GPU. Is there a way to set our GPUs to crunch and the CPUs simultaneously?
