Jonathan, I'm still hearing the whoosh from you when you went by a couple of days ago! laughing I've made in into the top 4000 on run time now so that gets me past that point on all three measures now though I still hope to break thru 2500 on points. biggrin

Here are my stats in WCG, but I'm not sure how they're going to transfer to BOINC Stats:

Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 3:175:01:59:24 (#6,772)
Points Generated (Rank) 2,440,220 (#3,186)
Results Returned (Rank) 8,571 (#2,337)

Run Time and Results Returned should not change as I understand it. Points will change to Credits and will be one-seventh of your point value.

Divide WCG points by 7 to get BOINC credits.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 28 smilesmile

Also, for those of you running FAAH, be sure to look at Long Running FightAIDS@Home Workunits if you haven't. The FAAH WUs in the batches listed will run long and may go past the original due date that you see in BOINC Manager but if you look at the WU in Results Status, you'll see the correct extended date. You do get an increased number of points in proportion to the extended run time needed so there's no real loss in running them. What I have observed, however, it that the longer run times will result in your To Completion times as estimated by BOINC being increased noticeably, perhaps significantly, which will in turn result in fewer WU's than typical sitting in your "queue" to run. The To Completion times should drop once these FAAH WUs are completed on your machines but that will take some time as additional WUs with the normal times get crunched and BOINC Manager reduces these times as a result. As long as WCG doesn't have an extended outage, you shouldn't notice any impact aside from a possibly slightly higher probability of a WU going into PV jail that normal.

Edit: To clarify my last sentence, my observations of BOINC behavior is that if you run with a constant size "queue" and estimated run times are reasonably accurate, you'll get new WUs at a reasonably "regular" rate. So if you look at the times you receive each new WU, they won't be "clumped together". This relative smoothness bests minimizes the probablity of a given WU ending up in PV jail waiting on validation. It's when there's a change in one of those factors - your "queue size" (Additional work buffer), actual run times vs estimated and such that this changes. When WUs start taking longer that BOINC has been estimating and the initial To Completion times start rising, you'll get fewer WUs over a given period of time than before. If you start crunching on those WUs closer to the time you receive them as a result (they don't spend as long as usual sitting in your buffer waiting), you'll see an increased probability they will sit in Pending Validation that before, especially if they come in to you in clumps. When the estimated run times start dropping, you'll starting getting more WU's than usual in a given amount of time. Here, you could see the probability of a WU sitting in PV increase or decrease depending on whether they wait more or less time that usual for your machine to get to them.

Most of your will read this and say "HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH????" and, if so, don't worry about it. For those of you who "finesse" your crunching, it may prove interesting, possibly useful even, if it makes any sense! laughing

Turns out there's another interesting side effect of the looooonnnggg To Completion time estimates for these FAAH WUs - as you crunch one, and especially after completing one possibly, your time estimates can get skewed upward on all your WUs, not just on FAAH. This could be enough, depending on your buffer size, that BOINC switches to Running, High Priority instead of Running. Not much additional impact on WCG but that could cause WUs from projects other than WCG to get delayed and possibly be too late.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 28 smilesmile

It kind of bothers me when they don't test out work units properly before dispatching them. I know that they're basically the community service division of IBM and that thusly, they get the fewest employees and the fewest resources, but I have even fewer resources! My power bill last month was $200!!!!!

Switching to BOINC Stats, Blizzie we are neck and neck!

TOTAL TODAY WEEK MONTH AVG CRED
Jonathan Figdor 349,818 3,673 17,743 62,892 2,246
Blizzie 589,709 4,172 15,733 62,229 2,171

Look at the month, week, and avg credit columns! We match up really well!

Jonathan

Since both of you joined under BOINC (I think), nothing will change with the conversion. Just the people who ran UD before BOINC will have a credit increase.

EDIT: PS: Boinc Stats cares nothing about runtime and # results but I assume they will still be reflected at WCG.
