I can imagine that the website changes have to be pretty extensive to remove all the UD stuff. There's bound to be plenty behind the scenes we don't see directly. Even September for the points conversion is earlier than I would have guessed. I would recommend though that you go ahead and post a thread in Member News about the point changes so that teams here with their own points reporting, etc. can know the change is coming. When a specific date is set for the change, the thread can be updated with that then.

So, when will all this happen ("the sync up")? Sometime... No date given as far as I know. I have noticed that the overall WCG stats have been kinda low these past two days (maybe it's just because this time of the year when many take "Holidays/Vacations". Or maybe it's the heat of this Summer. These reasons are certainly one part of the explanation. Another part comes probably from the distribution changes which have have happened or are still happening these last days. FAAH distribution has been suspended several hours to correct a problem, and (some?) new WUs are much longer so it will take some time before they are returned and validated. And DDDT is being dried to allow the switch to new no-redundancy WUs. There are probably several clients set to crunch DDDT only which are currently idle for a few more days. And since there is also the week end effect it will take a few days to be able to better analyze how all these reasons have been combined in the recent decrease of the stats. Cheers. Jean. Can *anyone* give us news about when this sync will happen? Seriously. I keep getting asked when .. I'd like to provide the answers. I'm sure that many of you wants an answer as well. ![]() Seriously, any news yet? It's been awhile. Crunchers want to know. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Johnny Cool at Aug 29, 2008 1:21:10 AM] |

We were told nothing would be done until the change to zero redundancy was complete. The batch of large FAAH units delayed that, which had a knock-on effect.

Okay, we're closing in on October and single redundancy is running. Yes we're still recovering from the disk problem but that should be done in the next day or two. Is there a shot in the dark yet on when to look for the points conversion?

Seriously, any news yet? It's been awhile. Crunchers want to know. Actually it might just be that you want to know. I am prepared to wait to let the responsible people who are managing WCG to make management decisions about the system. They are far more qualified to know the priorities that need to be solved. You have no idea on the time required to solve any single issue they have on their plate. The CAs and Techs do not work for us, so cut them some slack. We are working for the scientists. You are correct that there is no news on it currently. It is high on the list and I get to report twice a week to the project PM that no progress has been made. Here are a few things that have happened meanwhile:
Disk Failure - we are actually still dealing with this on the backend. There was some damaged to a lot of the batches that are ready to be loaded into BOINC and we are working through fixing them (as well as flat out identifying what needs fixing as well). We currently only have about a 16-24 hours supply of work ready to send (we are continually adding more, but prior to the disk failure we usually had a queue of 14-21 days of work ready to load and send). We hope to be getting back to normal by end of week. We just finished a rule for the IBM internal software management system that will locate all remaining computers within IBM that were never migrated from the UD agent to BOINC. It will do the migration for those users automatically. All of these migrated computers will be under the 'IBM' id so watch for that id to go up in the charts over the next two months. There is a new release of the website that will be released today or tomorrow that will provide a few features - including the ability to see your contribution by project. Additionally, we are working toward adopting the BOINC 6.2 client. There are some key features of the new version that are of key interest to us. One of the key ones is that the overall architecture changes of the client will finally let IBM employees be able to see the graphics on the screen saver (since most non-IBM folks aren't aware of this, the windows security implementation and previous BOINC graphics implementation meant that if you check the box 'On resume, password protect' for the screen saver, then in many cases, the research project graphics could not be displayed). This problem is resolved with BOINC 6.2 and is thus very important for us. All of this is just to say that we are working on the stats conversion. When we have it working in development, we will publish an official date for the migration. This will let us publish a firm date. |

This will let us publish a firm date. Sounds perfect!!! The specific date doesn't matter. What matters is having enough time to convert and be ready on our end. |
